Chest in Fire Node not reading correct initial dexterity, can't open it

    Hello,

    Welcome to my first post on the site.

    Let me say anyone directly involved with fixing this game rocks!

    And now onto my problem.

    I m in the Fire Node with my cute little rogue.

    There is a chest guarded by 5-6 fire elementals ( I killed em! Hehe! )

    I use my rogue on the chest and I always fail to open it.

    When I check the rolls it says that my initial roll is 13 and I have a +6 bonus from the gauntlets of dexterity.

    I roll a perfect 20.

    intial = 19 + roll = 20 total = 39 vs 40 failure

    When I click on my stats in my character's portrait it says my initial value is 16.

    Can someone please fiddle with this or tell me how I can fix it?

    Are you wearing armour with a high check penalty? as that will lower your dexterity based skills.

    Also try casting Guidance (+1 on next skill check) on your rouge, or Cats grace (+4 dexterity = +2 bonus to dex skill checks).

    That chest is especially difficult to open, I couldn't open it even with my 10th level rogue with gauntlets of dexterity and Cat's Grace cast on her..not to mention maxed out open lock skills. It's the only lock in the entire game that I couldn't open. If you can't open it, just use knock.

    Who's there?

    Seriously, its a pain, that chest, I had to come back later too. Not something you want or expect at lvl 10.

    Also keep in mind the value of masterwork theives' tools (you didn't take them off for a belt of strength or something did you?) and 'inspire competence' from a bard.

    Yeah I suppose if I had pumped her up with all kinds of spells and skills I would have eventually opened it, but knock was much easier. It's well worth it though, if I'm not mistaken, there's a very nice item to pick up.

    ummm....I really shouldn't have to use knock to open this.

    Like other players have commented I have a pure 10th level rogue.

    She hasn't had any trouble with any previous locks etc.

    Cat's Grace doesn't stack on top of gauntlets of dexterity ( I tried ).

    I will try taking her beautiful armor off, and if that doesn't work...my wizard will take a crack at it.

    Where do I get masterwork lockpicks?

    Bah ! Skole is dead and Lodriss wont speak to me because I have Scorpp in my party

    I tried creating an Deep Red Ioun Stone so that I could get a bonus + 2 Dex

    But the Ioun Stone doesn't stack either.

    Do the master lockpicks stack?

    Easy solution, get rid of Scorpp. It's obvious he's causing you alot of trouble, you've mentioned it in other posts. If thats not an option for you, your gonna have to cheat using the console. Otherwise your SOL cause thats the only place to get masterwork lockpicks (I think)
