So I rescued Paida and brought her back to Hommlet, and everyone decided to attack me. I used "sleep" or subdual damage so that I didn't have to kill anyone in the tavern, but people are still attacking me.

I know this usually means that you have the "butcher of hommlet" reputation or whatever it is, and you can remove that with console. However, i don't have this reputation. And, i've tried to put the right fix into console and it does nothing.

So...did the people in Hommlet just turn belligerent for some reason? Any idea how to fix it?

(I have Meleny in my party, but have not actually damaged her in any way)

    Thanks

Mod-check please, let's see if we can narrow it down to a specific mod configuration. (Not counting, "did you kill x, y or z?" because of your comment about Meleny).

On a related note to that of the original poster, I have both Fruella and Meleny in my party and I just had a very disturbing scene occur. I just found the thief who was stealing from Filiken, so I decide to visit 'Pops' and let him know I've solved the mystery.

Well dear old Dad is crying and saying that I've got a lot of nerve coming around there because Meleny meant everything to him. Mind You, Meleny was married to the guy talking to him and standing right next to him.

Well Pops goes off about how his life has no meaning without her and attacks along with the other daughter.

I have Meleny unequip her Compound Bow of Flaming, Shocking MegaDeath and beat some sense into them until they fall unconscious. Sadly, Filiken tried to attack my Paladin unarmed and suffered a fatal AoO. I raised him a moment later with the vaunted Staff of Life and then had Meleny whap him upside the head when he tried to renew his attack.

Now the only reason I can think that this might have happened is at one point Meleny (along with most of the party) got killed by the horde of Galeb Dur in the Earth Node. (Thank God my Bard had a high UMD skill and a Wand of Chain Lightning and a Scroll of Raise Dead.)

Similarly, on my previous time thru the game, Thrommel got killed by Iuz but I raised him moments thereafter and during the end game it said his death was being mourned.

    So what gives?

Whatever flags are getting thrown when someone dies should be reversed if You raise them. Can someone tell me how to do this?

As far as mods, on my previous go-thru I was using the standard install suggested on Co8's homepage (patches 1,2, Co8 & Moebius). This time, I'm using patches 1, 2, Co8 and Livonya 1.51.

Any help would be appreciated. I married Meleny and Fruella to my male characters for roleplaying purposes and to see those endings, not because my party was hurting for adventurers. These errors somewhat defeat that purpose.

I thought you couldn't marry Meleny until after you solved the Stealing Farmers quest.

Filiken let me marry her before I'd solved that quest — gave me the holy sword as a dowry and everything. BTW, why is the CR of those damned Galab Dur so low? That's always been the toughest fight for me in the whole game. :twitch:

You just need to let her sister get married before her, which means solving the cupid's arrow quest involving the carpenter and all those durn conversions. The stealing quest is separate.

Sounds like those flags are definitely being raised when they die. Note to self: don't let my party members die. Ah, problem avoided. See how easy? :poke:

Ahem, as you can see, I have no useful advice to offer. Heh.

    Working on it... gimme 10.

Edit: Ok, Meleny's 'am I alive?' thing is flag 196. It seems to b fine on paper (right script being fired by the protos.tab, script itself looks ok) and Filliken indeed has 196 in his .py file as the trigger making him say his peice on her being dead. Not sure why this happened to u, may just be bad luck. Will test a bit in a little while.

Thrommel's death flag is 150. My eyesight must be even worse than I thought because I can't find the file that controls the game endings: its a long list of "if this flag is 1, then play this slide". Spent an hour looking for it, I mean its in there somewhere but I can't see it. <sigh>

As for why its all happening - I think the game is unstable in this area. I can remember plenty of people saying they have had Elmo die, resurrected him but still get treated as the Butcher of Hommlet. I kill him / raise him regularly if he has too much money / gems (enough to pay for the resuurection and make it worth the effort) so it works some of the time, not all of the time.
Thats funny. Keep that up and you'll be drafted as a dialogue writer, like it or not.
