Hi, I started the game with a 3PC+5NPC configuration in Ironman mode. My PC's are as follows: M/NG/Human/Sorcerer - Social Skills, Party Leader, Two Handed Weapon user [not sure if I will settle on Greatsword or Greataxe] M/TN/Half-Orc/Druid - Survival/Listen/Spot/Heal, Tank, Shapeshifter, Scimitar/Shield F/NE/Elf/Rogue - Thief Skills, Celtic , Two Weapon Fighter [Katana & Wakizashi] I will probably try to pick up that drunk fighter guy and use him until I can handle stuff with the above three characters. I was thinking about giving my Sorcerer all of the item creation feats, but it will be too limited with his spell choice. I am thinking about picking up a Wizard later in the game to enchant my masterwork weapons. Any idea who would be a good fit? Thanks,
Believe it or not, the druid is a pretty good choice for a crafter. If you really want an NPC to do it, Spugnoir from the inn is a wiz, and can be made into quite the crafter, if you're leveling NPCs up like characters and get to choose what spells and feats and such he takes.
I wasnt aware that the Druid could do it... hmmm, maybe I will just make him the Enchanter and pick up the wild shape feats if I have any left. Thanks.
Druids are actually the best crafters in the game, followed closely by Clerics. They get the key craftable buff spells (Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Bear's Endurance, Fire, Frost and Shock based spells for weapons) without needing to find scrolls, and they can sink their feats into Craft Item and Craft Weapon without losing much real combat power. Meleney, Spugnoir and Burne should be able to outfit your party with all the items you want, so long as you're willing to earn the cash and XP. Wizards can craft anything except divine (Holy Axiomatic) weapons, but it slows their access to their best combat and metamagic options quite a bit. I use Wizards to craft wands and scrolls, but there's something to be said for getting to Empowered Fireballs as fast as you can.
I generally have one cleric and one wizard, both with the CA&A feat. That way I can get just about all the wondrous items I want, plus all the weapon enhancements I want, including holy. Yay!
You know I never thought of that, probably because Meleny is always a bit behind in XP and I am more interested in lvling her up quickly... come to think of it, I always wonder what to give her as feats, usually she gets 'weapon specialisation' or 'spell penetration', I can live without them
I've actually found that I tend to take Item Creation feats for both Druids and Clerics...I mean, I could go the Great Cleave route, but I'll usually just stick with feats to improve his turning abilities or (always!) make Human Druids to pick up Augment Summoning at lvl. 1, freeing him up to take almost every item creation feat. But that's just me. What level is required to craft Holy weaponry? I've never quite figured it out and I'd like to have them around for general purposes and all around evil slaying.
Crafting Holy weapons in TOEE requires a level 7 Good cleric with the Good domain. Sometimes the option won't be there when you first open the Craft Weapon screen; just exit and then open it up again, and the option should be available. You'll need to a Lawful Cleric with the Law domain to craft Axiomatic weapons. A point-buy party with Holy Axiomatic Frost weapons can cut Iuz to pieces in under 2 rounds, which is a thing of great joy.
That's good to know, since I had a big problem where he wiped my party out...St. Cuthbert showed up and everything, but he just stood there like a moron and nothing happened. I didn't know you had to take Good as a domain for Holy weaponry...thank you.
Shameless plug: I've got an item-crafting faq over at G.F.: http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/temple_of_elemental_evil_crafting.txt
I have found that every time I charm one of the ettins or hill giants in the Hedrack battle, and they are still charmed when St. Cuthbert shows up, he never does anything, just stands there like an idiot. Very useful if you need more time to kill Iuz, or want to kill St. Cuthbert
I never try to charm anyone...usually, to avoid it, I slaughter Hedrack before he has a chance to... Or I run away like a little girl when he threatens to summon Iuz. aranoid:
