I've been through Atari's support site, and I'm currently waiting on a reply from one of their techs, so I thought I'd ask if anyone here had encountered this problem. I can only run ToEE unpatched. If I apply ANY patch, the game can no longer find the CD. This has happened on three computers using five different cd drives. Patching to Atari 1 does it, patching to Atari 2 does it, patching Atari 1 then Atari 2 does it, and adding the Co8 and/or Liv's patches doesn't fix the issue. I've noticed that if I rename a copy of the toee.exe before patching, and use that .exe, the game will boot, but I'm assuming that the .exe was changed because something in it was wrong, and I assume bad things will happen if I try to play patch 2 data with an unpatched .exe. Anyone have any idea what might be up with this? Or failing that, anyone know how to hex out the SecuROM check, which I'm 99% certain is to blame? (One of the drives it fails on is a Sony, which is really sad.) Edit: Ah, never mind, I found the no-CD crack. That ought to do it.
Do a forum search for "no CD crack". There's one mention of it in the middle of the thread for Liv's mod, and another in a thread of its own. I don't have the links on me. It's seriously screwy that you have to crack the protection to play a legit copy of the game.
