  2. That idea is appalling, the game is complicated enough.

Thinking about this one more time, would it be possible to set a flag every time you add an item to your Spell Components Pouch?

Would that eliminate the problem of having to build multiple pouches?

Or am I just too tired? ;)

Yeah I was thinking something like that... hmmmm... that would be the way to go all right, just wondering about looking IN the bag and checking what you got... Hmmm... I reckon we'll think of something :)

Did bags of holding ever work? I know they don't now, but if we could get them to work the spell componant pouch should be entirely do-able, scroll cases too.

well if you go and do this, can you make it outside of the mod that co8 already made,so that those who want it, can have it and those that dont are not forced to have it.

and who'd sell it anyway, burne or his aprentis????

I may be mistaken, but I predict that the next co8 patch will come with Agetian's temple frontend 3, which (when set up correctly) will allow you to have multiple modules/versions installed simultaniously. I currently have 3, the ToEE default (upto patch 2), Livonya's mod, and Cujo's mod. So making it optional is now an option.

Yeah I was thinking the bad of holding, its in there.

Otherwise, a bag pic, a critter that speaks up when you 'use' the bag, and copious uses of the 'destroy' script in the dialogue when u use it.
Etc. Roughly, thats it, and then the spell scripts merely have to check if that flag is, ummm, flagged.

But again, its checking to see what is in there that is the rub - dlg options that take every possible combination of components in the pouch into account, could run into the hundreds.

Better to do a 'by type', and then ask what the player wants to check is already in the pouch, rather than prepare a list.
This would be a few dozen lines rather than a few hundred. Maybe obj_list or some other python command I am not familiar with could make it even more efficient.

I think having creatures, invisible merchants, etc. is a little bit (okay, a LOT) flaky for the sake of introducing a bag of holding. If there isn't a more elegant way of doing it, I wouldn't use it at all.

As for the reagents, why not have the necessary item (gem for example) consumed and destroyed forever when you learn the spell? Inventory problem solved. Also, don't allow the spell to be scribed, so if you have another caster she too has to find or purchase the expensive/rare component.

The simplest solution has to be the best.

PS. Please please pleeeease don't implement, for PC's or monsters, instant death spells like Wail of the Banshee, etc. Having to prep your whole party against that one instant death threat, which can only be avoided via Death Ward is totally anti-roleplaying suck ass! (IMO)

Oh? Why not? Wail of the banshee is a great spell, especially as you can use your bard to counter song the effect! (Not sure if counter song is an option in this game, but it should be!)

Just a personal pref, but a spelll that my character can't scribe a scroll for is never going to get used at all. However, destroying the item on learning the spell is fine; it's a better way of handling the problem than filling the PC's inventory.

I'm pretty sure countersong is an option. I had a bard once with a lot of perform ranks, and seem to remember it there as an option. Not that I ever used it...didn't really need to.

Yup, you can Countersong, there's just nothing actually to countersong.

Counterspell was also an almost complete waste of time until Livonia finally gave us a few more targets who actively cast spells.
