(Please remove if not allowed). Hey all, I've spent the last month or so lurking on these forums as I played through/made a video about TOEE and CO8 and figured I would post it here for those that might be interested. I want to express a hearty thank you to all of the authors and contributors who worked on the mod, I sincerely did not think I would have as much fun playing through it as I did. Would love to know what people think.
I felt it was an informative overview without too many spoilers. Also interesting to hear that you had the original disk version. I think that you should emphasize that when you have a game copy, there will be another step of downloading the latest Temple+ mod and installing. I'm not sure if your basic recreational gamer realizes that they must install an additional mod even if they bought a modernized version from steam or GoG. The sites usually say the software is updated to run on modern machines....which can be misleading. It does indeed run, but includes most of the original bugs. As you did mention, Temple+ is really where it starts to play well - ie, with very few bugs (IMHO).
Very well done. On behalf of the Co8 modding community that's existed here in many different forms over the years, thank you for the kind words assessing our work. Most of the contributors have long since moved on, but I'd like to think their ears are ringing a bit for old times.
If I remember correctly, I think I did have something to that extent in one of the first drafts of the script. I believe I removed it because I figured that, considering I always planned to include them in the description, people would be able to go to the resource hubs and read about the specifics themselves. Also helps that both mods are pretty simple to install, for the most part. It's probably not flawless logic, admittedly. Alas, the video was running long and some stuff had to go.
I had a great time doing it. TOEE was always sort of a weird game to me; never felt like I could get as into it as I thought I should be able to, and C08 got me over that hump. It's is a serious accomplishment and everyone involved should be proud of it.
Awesome video, thanks for the compliments. That's not why we do this, but great to see. Feel free to have a crack at KotB
Not to foil my own plans, but KOTB may or may not have been added to a prospective short-list of potential videos. Couple other things already locked in, but we'll see what happens in a few months .
Great video, and the praise for the community is appreciated! I have to defend Greyhawk, though... It remains my favorite world precisely because of its "low fantasy" focus. I prefer games where not every encounter has world-shaking implications. When I first introduced my kids to D&D, they were actually more invested in living their characters' peasant lives than engaging with their first adventure (despite it being entirely local and defending their hometown). They weren't motivated until a goblin stole one of THEIR sheep! High fantasy has just never really resonated with me.
