The Balor fight really needs to be nerfed.

And here I am, praying for all enemies to get an insane buff sometime :)

Soften earth and stone + Balor rolling a natural 1 meant Thrommell could go whacky whacky with the Swords of Answering and full Power Attacky!

Our main characters were level 3. We won. (Alleluia!) We got 0 EXP.

Consider the Balor in the Fire Node an optional boss.

Thrommel is level 10 and can do the balor by himself.

I considered trying my hand at adding a Frenzied Berserker kit (I find it a fun kit in nwn2), but the silliness of Fragarach in ToEE would add even more silly.... likely guaranteed to be cheesed solely for Fragarach + power attack throughout the game. :(

I surprised no one has ever mentioned this but.. Counterspelling against Balor.. just.. works!
It's all about caster level + 1d20 roll vs only 16 DC! So you win most of the time and if you have multiple casters then you are completely safe. In my case there were 3 casters in my party preparing Counterspell every turn and poor Balor couldn't cast even a single spell during his lifetime until he eventually ran out of spells.
This is so easy it actually feels unfair as 16 DC to counterspell any Balor's spell has to be a glitch.

Its been years, but yeah I think I remember that fight being very brutal. Throw everything you have at him and buff like crazy just to have a chance. But its been years, maybe some good weapons to craft against him. Hello ShiningTed!

Thanks! Been a while that's for sure, but I always loved what you guys did with ToEE. I still remember sitting in the breakroom around 2008 at Atlantic Superstore in Nova Scotia and talking about RPG's when a guy said you need to check out a group called Circle of Eight, they are doing amazing things with TOEE. That's how I originally got here. :)

I'm not sure what's all been going on since I left. I remember a few things like you guys made a more realized version of the city of Verbonec (I know I'm spelling this very wrong) where there were better spells and other great stuff.
Then I remember a dragon quest, and then it got pulled to I think get revamped. I always loved the giant king frog in the swamp. But then I grew up going to a lake that had lots of frogs so I'm biased! lol

Yah, Gaear took the Co8 mod to a whole other level, and there are certainly dragons. (Beholders, too). But in my completely objective and unbiased opinion, the 1.0 of KotB we finally released is the jewel in the crown.

That sounds amazing! The music in Hommlet I'll always find to be beautifully serene and mysterious. I will definitely check out your latest mod. Is there a thread where I can read about what's new in the last couple year or that mod pack?

Well, not a lot happening with either mods last couple years - modding has been focussed on other things. We did a demo of an IWD conversion too, and lots of other stuff has been going on.

Good ol IWD. A lot of people probably don't remember but waaaaay back, when Black Isle was around on the website there used to be tombs, like old books on a shelf on their site, each one was an RPG icon to click on and it brought you to info on that game. I remember the team they had and conversations a lot of fans including myself had with them on ideas during development. Going story lite, gameplay focused, but that changed somewhat along the way.
I really enjoyed the improved spell effects over BG1 and better monsters. That was a great classic game. Fun boss and mini boss encounters!
