"Eye of the Tiger" & "Pirate's life for Me" quest problems

So I'm trying to complete the Eye of the Tiger / "Pirate's Life for Me" quest.

Problem is when I talk to Tolub I can't get him to start a fight. He just says "you be looking to brawl with me? etc." but there's no dialogue option except goodbye. Tried with all my party members. Females get a slightly different version but still no dialogue options except goodbye.

Only guess is that I need a higher skill? Intimidate maybe? But the walkthroughs I've checked make no reference to this.

I've tried approaching these quests in both orders but the problem is the same. Eye of the Tiger just shows up as "mentioned" in my journal. "Pirate's Life for me" quest will start after flirting with Bertram with a female party member but then there's still no dialogue options with Tolub.

I have the latest Circle of Eight modpack and Temple+ installed.

Edit: OK so I've discovered that I can speak with Tolub about Bertram on the pier in the morning. I have the option to give Tolub money to let Bertram go or I can just tell him that I'm going to take Bertram in which case he attacks along with Grud and two villagers that are nearby. But after I've killed Tolub, it doesn't change the dialogue with Bertram... he still speaks as if he's alive. I can however tell Skole that Tolub is dead and get offered the assassination quest from him.

Alternatively my paladin with high diplomacy is able to convince Tolub to let Bertram go which is the only way I've found I've been able to actually complete the "Pirate's Life" quest. But I still can't get Tolub to challenge me to a fistfight so I can't complete the Eye of the Tiger quest.

 

pretty sure you can only brawl with tolub in the tavern, and hes only in the tavern at night
if you have only been speaking with him at the docks (which will be during the day) try speaking to him in the tavern at night

 

If you happen to reduce Tolub to exactly zero hit points when you brawl with him, he will fall unconscious and not get up until he loses some of the non-lethal damage from resting. In the meantime, you can loot his body without anyone caring, but you won't get the 100 GP or any XP for beating him, and you won't get the champion brawler reputation. However, when he regains consciousness, you can offer to fight him (in his underwear!), and if you defeat him, you get the XP, gold, and reputation.

 

And the loot in question is totally worth the effort!

 

Yeah I talked to him in the tavern. The problem, is I can't get him to brawl with me. He mentions brawling but my only dialogue option is goodbye.

never had any issues with toee or toee circle of 8. ive just installed temple+ so hopefully all runs well

i always brawl him with my fighter
generally have a classic boring (but my favourite) paladin, fighter, cleric (pelor sun and good), thief and mage.
from both a RP perspective and a highest hp total i always use my fighter to brawl him who always has a maxed out intimidate so you might be onto something about the "needing a higher intimidate"

 

Well I loaded an older save with a different party that I played with a bit awhile back and hadn't been to Nulb yet. When I went to the tavern in Nulb and talked to Tolub I was able to get the option to brawl with him... So it seems only the save files for my most recently created party were affected. Don't know if I started that older save file with Temple+ or not.

Perhaps it was just another random bug.
