Ok - So every time I try to use the secret device it simply claims it can't be used. We've got the three ranks in search required. Help - What am I missing?
I can rewrite that bit - "use your Secret Door Search tool from the radial menu". Have fun when you get out

Actually, I tihnk you only really need one character to have 3 because it does a group-search, but it locates it on the character whose tool is being used (the character whose radial menu is up). So make sure you are using a character near the portal area, not someone up near the armour chests or whatever.
Sorry for the necro but i cant figure this out. i use the radial menu, have 4 ranks in search, game says i found something (you have found a trap), but i as a player simply dont see where to click, transition icon doesnt appear, nor does any kind of interactive icon, button anything, no ladder
Ok, sorry I took so long to get back to you 1) Take your character with 4 ranks in Search and place them near the stairs near the portal thing (bottom of screen) that tells you to use your search tool. 2) Select Secret Door search tool from your Inventory radial menu 3) Shwing! If this doesn't work, please attach a Save Game.
Thanks for confirming that The point of it is so players have that moment at the start, not when looking for a plot-critical secret door
