Mad Max: Fury Road

    Making post-apocalyptic movies involving muscle cars from the early 1970s worked great when those movies were made in the 1970s and early 1980s, but making such movies now in the year 2015 and later just doesn't work. That said, I am a HUGE fan of the Mad Max franchise (except for Mad Mad 3: Beyond Thunderdome - I refuse to acknowledge the existence of that movie).

    Play something sad, Ton Ton...

    I loved Thunderdome. Guess we'll just have to disagree on this one. To my way of thinking, old cars made before computer chips would be easier by far to keep running after the world takes a dump, for two reasons (at a minimum):

    1. Electro Magnetic Pulse has fried the vast majority of them
    2. building/repairing/replacing the undestroyed ones is no longer possible.

    Considering your sound argument, I now agree with you. Also, the old car bodies are much easier to panel beat. But there are the issues of rust and wear and mechanical reliability with very old cars.

    I'm looking forward to seeing the movie now that I will have a suspension of disbelief. And yes, Beyond Thunderdome has its moments - the cage fight against Master Blaster was the highlight of the movie for me.

    Myself, I love Thunder Dome and just watched it again for the umpteenth time. :)

    Just saw this on the (very) big screen. Whether it's Road Warrior or Happy Feet, when George Miller wants to turn it on he is without peer, and this movie is relentless. Go and see it immediately.

    Warning - I saw Age of Ultron the day after Fury Road and yawned through the opening action sequence thinking, "bah this is all CG. Fury Road had stuntmen!". Didn't engage with the Avengers' movie until half-way through.

    You have been warned...

    Sheeze, haven't been to a cinema in about a decade. Could be a good excuse to break the slump, but not sure the feminine spousal unit would be keen to partake in something quite so ferocious and violent :)

    I've seen it. Basically it's more Mad Max. Charlize Theron kicks ass in it.

    If you like the original Mad Max movies, go see it. ;)

    Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985)

    The next one is to be titled "Wasteland".

    This was also the title of the Bran Fargo predecessor to the Fallout Series of post-apocalyptic games. A new "Wasteland" game was released a couple of years ago.

    Possibly Chano knew what he meant when he said "first two" ;) I thought there was a lot to like about #3 but it was still a step backward compared to 1 & 2 (imho).

    If you like the isometric gaming view,(with the ability to rotate the camera some) turned based combat, well done areas and great atmosphere, then Wasteland 2 is a must play in my opinion. :)

    you are correct Ted, i have seen all of them and beyond thunderdome is nowhere near the first two.
    I could have been great with only a few changes, like a real actress instead of Tina Turner.
    You aussies know how to make apocalyptic movies :)
