Hey, I read in the manual that "Training an animal is done by engaging the animal in 'dialogue' and picking those options that the player wishes to train." So far, so good, but how do I "engage the animal in a dialogue"? When I "talk" to my summoned companion, nothing happens.
I've been using a druid, and she's been "talking" to her animal companions with no problem. Are you selecting the "talk" option from your druid's radial menu? It's as easy as that.
I assume success also depends on possessing a certain level of skill in "Handle Animal" and possibly even "Speak Languages"?
Yes I did exactly that. But I'll have a look, maybe I did forget to skill handle animal (not likely). Is speak languages really required to "talk" to animals?
Tested again with another character. Druid with 4 in handle animal (+ animal empathy!) and speak languages. I select the druid, right click, select "Talk" from the wheel and select the summoned animal companion. The druid walks to the companion, then nothing happens.
I think I found the problem: The dire rat is broken. It works with the chicken (btw.. a chicken?! wtf? ). So I guess some animals are broken while some are not.
I could not get the rat to work either. I was able to talk (and train) the other animal companions I tried, which were brown bear and wolf.
Thanks for checking guys. Since rats are regularly 'the monsters' and not your trusted boon companion, I must've forgotten about them. And yes, chicken is always a choice. I remember playing Ravenloft back in the 80s with a ranger who had a chicken AC for a joke. It got barbecued in a fire-trapped door. EDIT: No, Speak Languages is not necessary.
