If someone were to float a kick-starter for a New D & D Game what would you want them to put in it and why?
If I could I'd like to kickstart a D&D world based on the one my friend created that I helped flesh out as it has playable 'monster' races as heroes like minotaurs, half-giants, big cat races, reptilian races, gnomes(*), etc.- and those old boring elves, dwarves and humans as well...
Kind of like DnD 4e, the Minotaur, Wilden and Githzerai are all playable. And of course you can always be a Gnome, Goliath or Dragonborn too.
I'm really looking forward to see Project Eternity come to light. Obsidian definitely carry the same artistic dedication as Troika, LGS, Black Isle etc. RE DND, I would love to play one based in the Underdark setting.
The most recent update from Obsidian showed off some high quality work. I get the distinct impression we're in for an epic production when PE is released. Man, I can't wait!
To answer the first question: A fully fleshed out (Like ToEE is now after years of modding) D&D based game, set to the Pathfinder (unofficially referred to D&D version 3.75) rules. Pathfinder took the 3.5 D&D rule set and fixed them and it was made by people who had worked on previous D&D versions and were unhappy with the 4.0 D&D version (derogatorily referred to as a Minatures Wargame by some). Pathfinder turn-based RPG, count me in!
In case you didn't know, there is a Pathfinder MMO in production: https://goblinworks.com/ Hopefully this is good.
Indeed. I did enjoy years of MMOs and MMORPGs, but was really hoping for a Pathfinder turn-based project...
I want a game to look as though it takes its self seriously, my criticism of the divinity game is that it looks a little cartoon like. I also really hate the "sanitised" d and d artwork in some versions of the rules books. But at the same time I don't like games where the designers think the way to create atmosphere is though having most of it in the dark, or who insist on a "gritty" reality that reflects the human condition and so elevates the game from the status of game to genuine art- e.g pretty much most batman games (or films for that matter) An example what I like is the elder scrolls on-line, although it has the occasional Immersion breaker (e.g the dragon leap seen in the clip), I really like the general look and feel of the game For those who don't know about this one it is not turn based but it has a lot going on - both visually and in game play, see bellow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiCyJM58_zA&feature=c4-overview&list=UU7mFkx1Um4KJZKkUHsSV1uA
Excuse me, you did NOT just refer to the Fair Folk as "those old boring elves". They will avenge their slaughtered dignity.
One of my favourite games for DND artwork used to be the first NWN game. The 3d graphics were rather dated even at the time of release however the artwork for the NPCs, monsters etc were so well drawn that I used to look forward to encounters as much for the challenge as for the picture and accompanying backstory. That was something that I really missed in the sequel.
