what is special about them? is there an extra bonus vs certain types of monster? what is the bonus if any?
so far, i found just 1 use for them. (minor spoiler) somewhere in the Temple, is a room with some Werewolves in them. they have damage resistance 10/Silver, which means Silver arrows do normal damage while all other weapons have the first 10 points of dmg absorbed.
[More spoilage]There is another room with more weres in it, and these arrrows are nigh on the only silver gear in the game: don't lose them.[/spoil] Unless Liv has fixed it (I'm sure its a bug, or it should be regarded as one), weres in ToEE r DR 10 or so vs ANYTHING non-silver. If u crack one with your Holy Avenger, and it doesn't have a silver lining, they get DR 10. Ridiculous, should be silver OR magic imho. [Edit: just noticed Locutus said all that <sigh> hey its friday here!]
*spoiler* Wait, so there are MORE weres besides the 2 i fought already or are they it? man, that battle was hard! my group was all crossbow users so the only guy with a longbow had a 90% miss rate. that battle took the longest and the XP i got was sh*t. next time i think i'll just fireball the runts...
3.5 rules have it as silver only. The idea is it makes creatures with DR actually mean something since most characters have a +1 weapon by 4th or 5th level anyway.
There's also a room that has a group of jackals, wolves and jackalweres. The silver helps agains the jackalweres, but I don't think they're as tough as the werewolves.
How about fire damage, as per mythology. In almost every culture fire damages undead, vampires werebeasts etc.
Infact fire damage is not reduced by the werewolves damage reduction. If you attack a werewolf with a flamming longsword +1, you'll hardly deal slashing damage to the werefolf, except if you are VERY strong (or if the sword has a blade in alchemical silver, of course! ^_^), but you'll always deal +1d6 of fire damage. Just to avoid misunderstandments, DR only works for the damage directly dealed from weapons (slashing, piercing, bludgeoning) but is never calculated for any other kind of damage.
Disagree all you like. Troika set out to create a game that emulated the PnP rules as closely as possible and succeeded fairly well. And I gave you the reasoning behind the rules decision. I'm not sure what's up with your apparent attitude problem.
For me they did a nice but partial job for PC classes but failed with monsters. Even if I wasn't able to make the changes that I wished, you have no idea about how much bulls**t I found when editing my protos.tab.
Well how about adding silvered melee weapons and crossbow bolts? I dont mind doing the work but is it worth the effort? It means adding silvered weapons, silvered masterwork weapons, and a whole shed load of new dialogue for poor brother smythe (whose dialogue file is pretty chocablock as it is) or the jewler whats'his'name. but except for 2 warewolves and 2 jacklewares they won't make much of an impact on the game, unless we add a lot more of these creatures (or other zoanthropes).
No, effectively it is not, but silver arrows are just something hard to use, because the party must have a PC specialized with bows, point blank shot and precise shot. 1 or 2 melee weapons wouldn't be bad. Instead it would be nice for me to have an holy avenger and some cold iron (then masterwork) weapons. I mean, 1 or 2. not a special metal weapon for every kind. If you want, some are already ready in my protos tab. Just open it and manually copy those items in the protos.tab that you are using, then use the console to give them to party. It would be great if Filken woulg give to the party a masterwork cold iron sword instead of that holy sword +1. That holy sword is too powerful at that point of the game and the cold iron sword could be used for a quest to obtain a holy avenger from... *SPOILER*.... the wizard/shopkeeper that comes after saving Amii with Liv's mod.
