    All of those...

    Oh, and the hydra

Enlarged carrion crawlers (swamp) - always felt that model got wasted.
A swarm of ticks & stirges (might be a bit low level, but could be fun anyway).
XVicious new scorpion model? Might be getting off the simple curve there though
A few of the green hulking things from the moathouse respawn, some giant skels (in the hero quest) and a powerful necromancer.
A mother***** huge snake or thoquaa?

Seriously, there are loads of summon variants I've never seen. Some of those could probably make good random encounters too.

I am wandering off topic here, but I'd love to see a few of the encounters n the temple randomised too (like the empty rooms or those with seemingly random monsters in them).

Humanoid/ Giant War Groups: larger numbers, leader types, spell casters. High Level Spell casters: with minions. Powerful Monsters: hydra, lamia, Dire/Fiendish animals, The "ROC", ex. Drow:

    Ok, using existing:

Bugbear horde augmented by 1-3 temple bugbears with 5-10 class levels in rogue or barbarian (occasional encounter by day).

3 hags guarded by 1d4 hill giants and 1d8 ogres (not so frequent encounter at night).

Wolf pack with dire wolves and werewolf, or jackal pack with 2-3 jackalweres (rare encounter).

A couple wisps on swamp map (frequent encounter at night.)

Hydra (rare day encounter on swamp map)

Spider colony with 8-16 tiny, 6-11 small, 2-5 medium, 2-5 large, 2-5 huge monstrous spiders (day encounter on forest map).

    With some scripting:

Undead troupe in employ of higher-level generic necromancer, who uses Finger of Death, Stinking Cloud, Ray of Enfeeblement, Animate Dead etc. (not so frequent at night)

    Requires modded monsters:

Nightwalker, based on enlarged zombie model (see above, very rare night encounter), including Greater Shadows based on shadows.

Purple Worm, based on enlarged and recolored carrion crawler (occasional day encounter)

or how s about a pride of chimeras'

    all do-able

in facts, thee dargons are capable of killing a party of level 8 character's
(from running a few test runs, with 3.5 rules and some improvisions)

I have made these available if you are interested in downloading @ link:

    and
    chimera @
    http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10550

proto's/module modding expierence possibly needed for installing

    all due course:
dragons smell the rotting dead from temple and begin running rampant through the TOee world

    edit ecounter example:

    (party level >= 8)

    percent dice (1 d 100) : 90-100% -> encounter dragon

(1d3) medium young dragons (any color)
and 50% chance 1 adult parent as company

FWIW, I think it would be useful to keep the "random" part of random encounter in mind here. The primary purpose of REs in ToEE was not to advance the core story, but to simply make overland travel dangerous. That, more than anything else, should be the focus IMO.

Like the random encounters in Fallout 2- but not quite so silly? ;)

On a slightly related topic, what is the code to spawn the group of heroes that occasionally show up as a random encounter? I would like to encounter them prior to level 9-10.

    On topic:
How about a war party of Drow? and a handmaiden of Lloth?

Can the giant gar be modified into a crocodile? So that when you travel near water it attacks your party? Or are crocodiles not in the D&D rules?
