So I was thinking about these familars. It's possible to bring out a familiar to the field, right?. Is there any point in doing so? Can they do anything useful in a combat scenario?
There is the "I didn't know I could do x" thread with some hints for using your own mage's familiar, but there's also this: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9628&highlight=familiar
Okay I've summoned a familiar now... but he doesn't seem to level up with the Wizard. He doesn't get any new HP or abilities... How do I return him to the Wizard's inventory? Aha, I get the Wizard to talk to him! Yay thanks search, a few pages down but got it. He doesn't seem to appear to the party portraits on resummoning though. Will do some testing. EDIT: Yep, they don't appear in party roster after resummoning him post level up. He also reverts to being an animal companion in terms of AI, and no longer controllable. Can anybody offer any help? EDIT2: Worked again after another hour of play. Weird.
if you want your familiar to lvl up, then you need to get rid of your wizard/sorcerer while the familiar is out and running/flying about . Then change scene to get the first lvl
Haha sure! I was referring to not trying to exploit that bug though, and having a legit familiar with the wizard.
I don't know if it works in TOEE, but normally you would dismiss a familiar and when you call it back it should reflect the changes in level. In NWN2 you actually had to choose it again at level up.
