Okay, so we are making new intro movies for each worldmap area of ToEE that doesn't already have them, to appear in the 'final' modpack in September, v8. These movies will be fairly simple affairs that show static text and a static image and play background music, much like the Slavers movie. They will be somewhat cut-and-pastey in that the basics will be the same for each - same background texture, same positioning of text. They will have custom images in the foreground, and obviously, custom text that describes each area (identical to what the area description boxes used to do). To this end, we need a high quality background texture that will serve as the universal background for these movies. Something similar to what you see below (randomly picked from the internet) would be ideal. This is obviously a parchment-looking thing, which would serve well thematically. However, I'm open to other ideas. The colors should not deviate much though, as we want dark text on a lighter background. scramjetbooster, you up for the job? Dimensions need to be 1600x1000 (twice the size of ToEE movie resolution), and they should be bitmaps. Feel free to be creative. :mrhappy: ~ We'll need something similar for endslides eventually, but they can be more elaborate, like the vanilla ones. Unlike vanilla though, we probably won't have any images in the middle, unless a skilled artist shows up and volunteers to draw custom images for all the different outcomes.
@ scramjetcooster: By the way, once you're free of the current projects you're working on, can you please look at >>this<< post and see if you'd be willing/able to provide some content for it? Thanks a lot in advance! And thanks for high quality contributions to the Co8 project! - Agetian
sjb, just so you can see what's going on, here are prototype images for each of the movies, using the example background. The text in these will change as each 'page' displays. (Most of them have two pages, except the Temple, which has four.)
Ok, so I managed to pull something like this [56k modems beware]: So guys, tell me what you think! BTW, Gaear, what font do you use there in the examples? That looks nice!
Looks nice. I'll try it with an image or two later and post the results. The font for the titles I believe is called Bernard Modern (bold). The descriptive text font is just Book Antiqua IIRC.
Looks nice. Re: the TFE-X elements, not to volunteer you for more work sjb but is there any reason that can't all be unique custom stuff?
btw, I've since flipped the texture horizontally, which seems to work a bit better with contrast in the text portion of the image.
