How do you open console?

Ok, I'm missing something here. I went through my game manual and then I tried tapping each key to bring up the game console and CANNOT figure it out. Is it like a SHIFT+ something else combo??? Read several posts of interest here which refer to using console commands, but my dumb arse can't figure out how to open the console

 

Probably you have to rename the ToEE.exe file as ToEE-console.exe
then press SHIFT+\

 

No renaming of the executable required.

For American keyboards it's SHIFT+~ to open and close the console.

 

First of all, the console only works if you have patch 2 installed.

The key combination you have to press is Shift + Tilde (i.e. ~). The tilde key is the key above your tab key.

0rion79: Renaming ToEE.exe in the way you described CANNOT work. Surely you meant that he should add the switch "-console" to the target line of his ToEE shortcut? Anyway, the console should work without adding this switch.

 

Oddly enough I tried Shift + ~

Even keeping the shift and tilde key held down, no console box pops up. I do have patch 2 currently installed. (Not patch 3)

Wonder why I can't get the console to open? Shrug.

Would any of the mods and fixes pose a problem with opening the console?

 

I highly doubt it - otherwise it would be a problem everyone trying to use the console would spot. And certainly the modders would have picked up on it

What keyboard 'nationality' do you have? On some keyboards, the tilde doesn't perform the right function (I had this problem with EQ using british keyboard). Try the same thing but test different keys from tilde. One of them should work.

don't forget the space between .exe" and -console in the shortcut target line

I have Win98 and Italian game and keyboard: when Liv told me to try some cheat to reset Mona's orb quest, I wasn't able to have the console to execute any command. After renaming the file like it is NOW (ToEE-console.exe) it works fine. Maybe it works with this version only.

Oddly enough, my keyset is set to United States and I AM using patch 2 but I CANNOT get the console to open. I'm running Patch 2, Mobeius fix, fan fix and Livonya's mod. Everything seems to run fine, but no console. Shrug.
Even holding down Shift + tilde for 30 seconds or more will not open it. I'm clueless..............
