So, picked ToEE up about 2 weeks or so ago off GoG. Bought the boxed version when it came out, but because it was so buggy, I never got past character creation. Shortly after picking it up again, discovered your mod. Great work. Thank you. In my first play through, I hit a bug I think, and was curious if this is a known bug or just something I messed up somehow? I had a party size of 8, and went and cleared out the main temple (mix of 7-9th level characters). I then rested down there, and went directly into the earth node. Killed the demon there for the gem, and teleported to Hommlet to have Jaroo clear off the permanent graphic effects (by killing and rezing them - thanks for putting that in). It seamed to work fine. I then hiked back, and killed the Vrock in the air node. Again, 3 people got hit with permanent effects. Out of teleport scrolls, so hiked back to Hommlet to redo the cleaning. However, when I stepped into the inn, everybody there decided to attack me. After a bit of investigating, I discovered that I had somehow tagged myself with teh Butcher of Hommlet reputation. No idea how I got it. I went back to an older save, and all of them during the above listed events had the tag. So, I went back before that time and am in the (slow) process of redoing it. Although in these battles I did have some of the NPC's in my group die, I did give them all rezes. I wasn't the one that actually killed any of them, it was all "badguys". So, I am trying to figure out if this is something I did (so I don't do it again), or if this is a bug that just happens, or what. Thanks!
Welcome to the forum Spacy Cadet. Are you absolutely sure you didn't accidentally hit an NPC with an area of effect spell in a battle that they died in, (even though they were killed by a baddie)?
Hi Spacy Cadette I am pretty sure that each Hommlet based npc who gets "killed" by Jaroo counts towards your allowance of 3 before you gain the Butcher of Hommlet rep.... I don't think raising npcs reverses the count....... I've got the Butcher of Hommlet rep for killing a chicken before now. I am not sure "butchering" is necessarily an active process - more like the popular view of British First World War generals.
Guess that makes sense. If Jaroo counts, than ya.... ouch. Is there any known way to correct it if you have earned it?

Nice, thanks. Been avoiding the console, but it is probably Shift-Alt-~ or something similar, I am sure.
I'm thinking now there must be some internal routine that sets this rep, like used to be the case with the drinking thing and paladins. There should be absolutely no scripting in the game that causes it (though I'll have to check Jaroo to be sure). We'll probably just create a new rep for Butcher and do an end-around.
It would be real nice if it was the village people, but not the NPC's that could join the party. That way accidental walking onto spikestone won't cause you to be hated. If there isn't an easy way to untag them, then perhaps link it to killing a couple of specific NPC's. You know far more of how the game is coded than I do, but those are at least some ideas to start with.
There's scripting in place to prevent the rep from being applied when the NPC is in the party, so that shouldn't be an issue. And we can't really take the penalty away from killing NPCs like Elmo, because he's an established member of the community. His loss would be felt. The 3 kills and over thing is probably a bit simplistic though.
