Over the last few weeks I've been playing 7.8.0. Things were going ok, until recently I found my party members unable to drink potions or cast buff spells effectively. The animation is actually displayed, but the effects don't show up on their portraits (and they actually don't happen, I've tested). This applies also to positive "area effects" such as Bless, Prayer, etc. Example: if one of my character drinks a Invisibility Potion, or have someone cast Invisibility on him, all the animations are displayed, but that character ends up not being Invisible at all. The same happens to Bless, Healing Spells and Potions and generally all buff/effects that come from potions and spells. Enemies can't still affect my characters, however, I've just entered the Water Node after my party couldn't defeat the Balor in the Fire Node, up until then things were normal, I would cast Bless, Bull's Strength, Healing Spells, drink potions of Invisibility, etc, just as it's supposed to be. However, since reloading from a battle against Balor, everything is now messed up. The only healing spell currently working is "Cure Moderate Wounds: Mass". The rest of them is dispalyed as being cast, but has no effect whatsoever. This is happening to all my characters (I've changed PC's number to 6 in TFX), including NPC's - I only took Wonnilon, though. I've tried leaving the nodes, the temple, casting these spells in different locations and the problem hasn't ceased. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any suggestions to solve this?
Talk to Jaroo the druid about spell permanency. Some questions though: did you save during combat? How many spells are in effect all at once? Are you casting spells near monster spell casters (just found out that sometimes the computer spell casters will override a player characters caster's spells)? Are you trying to cast spells after already having Lesser Sphere of Invulnerability cast?
1 - I never save during combat; 2 - Right now, no spells are in effect because of this problem; It did start before I tried to face Balor, when I used all the buffs I had, but I loaded that game because I decided to come back later to beat him when my party is stronger; 3- Yes, I usually cast spells near monster spell casters 4- I did that too. I had a Lesser Sphere of Invulnerability cast by my wizard when I faced the Noble Salamanders in the Fire Node (their fire balls kept killing my wizard). Then I just blasted away all my offensive and defensive spells to beat them. The thing is, it's not happening just to my spells. I can't seem to use potions either. Thanks for helping, I'll try talking to Jaroo!
Ok, I did talk to Jaroo and it worked. I had to strip my characters naked because somehow the game would crash when I tried the spell permanency healing while wearing magic items. Thanks a lot! However... Is this going to happen whenever a monster spell caster is nearby?
Interesting- I've noticed recently that some of my characters are resistant to low-level buffs and cure spells. I'd put it down to their cloaks of resistance but maybe it is a dodgy lesser globe of invulnerability persistence. Thanks for raising the issue.
When this has happened to me it usually is preceded by a character "making his saving throw" against one of these harmless spells. If it happens again, could you check your die and see if a saving throw was attempted when it shouldn't have been.
This is one of the more common spell permanency routines - lesser globe is cast and stays permanent, thus making level 1-3 spells ineffective. There is no bigger fix for this sadly, because it's due to some defective internal routine. Best we'll ever get is Jaroo.
I've had this problem myself, through several modpacks. I think I've found a workaround ( it works for me, at least.. ) You just need to DISMISS the Lesser Globe spell BEFORE it naturally runs out. Hope it helps
I followed Gehennis' advice and talked to Jaroo, now everything seems ok. Except for a new problem: when I cast Invisibility Sphere, none of my characters wihtin the sphere go invisible. Whenever they go inside the sphere, they actually roll for spell resistance, FAIL it, and still don't become invisible. I've tried removing any magical items which could produce this effect, and still can't become invisible through this spell. This is a minor problem, however. Really not compared to not being able to cast healing spells or drink potions.
