Before my current palythrough I went as far as deleting the files Gaer said were no longer needed but was unsure as to what to do once I clicked on your download. Which file would I need to activate to get the new front end started?

@ Gehennis: On Windows, the new front-end is a drop-in replacement for the old one, you use it the same way you used the old one, you can even use the same shortcut if you have one on your desktop or in the menu. On Linux and other Unix-likes, it's easily started via a premade shell script. Basically, download the archive and unpack it, then launch TFE-X.exe (if on Windows) or TFE-X.sh (if on Linux).

@ AjiTae: Unfortunately, for some reason still crashes for me on Linux... :(

    I knew it. =\

Works for me, now under wine...

    a. Try to delete toee.cfg.
    b. Try to launch it by doubleclick(not "wine toee.exe").

Hmm tried it the way you asked and now it didn't crash but it was unplayable as well... the screen was cut off on the right (I could only see about a third of it )and I couldn't see what I was doing...

Disabling the intro makes it playable but, interestingly enough, the resolution is 800x600, not 1680x1050 (despite it being set to 1680x1050 inside the cfg file). :\

Try now with clean dll, without touching anything else. Does it work the same way?
I used to have just the same problem with xfce, but not lxde, it was not related to dll.
I fixed this by "wine configuration" -> Graphics -> Emulate desktop -> [your native resolution].

    Anyway i'll continue digging.)

//what is your wine version and what DE do you use(if any :) )

The clean DLL works consistently fine, just tried it - it hasn't ever crashed on me or behaved weird in any way, I'm able to choose any resolution I want and it works without a hitch or glitch. I use Linux Mint 14 KDE with KDE v4.9.3, my videocards are NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 on the new Linux box and NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT on the older Linux box. Both boxes use the latest available NVIDIA binary drivers from the repository. I'm currently running Wine v1.5.29. I haven't tried using the virtual desktop feature in Wine with ToEE (will do that in an hour or two) but the original, unmodded DLL works fine without having to emulate the desktop in a window...

Ok, with the Emulate Virtual Desktop the dll you posted worked twice and didn't work twice, not sure what it depended upon but it didn't work consistently for me - twice it worked just great (as expected) and twice it kind of worked (the resolution was 1680x1050) but the playfield and the UI were confined to the top left 800x600 area; moreover, outisde that are I could see some game objects (MOB type - chests, doors, that kind of stuff) but nothing else, so basically it wasn't playable... :(

    Black magic.=)
    I'll try completely different approach.

//The place of failure is resolution enumerator, that detects available video modes. It seems any de and any driver under linux does it random way.
//I thought i found the regularity, but it was hardware-specific after all.

Ok, good luck! Hopefully you'll be able to find a solution to this puzzle in the end! As usual, will test any upcoming builds as they become available!

Just passing by to say that I've been testing the new TFE-X 4.0 and it works incredibly great. What I love in this version is that I can customize the resolution when I'm using window mode. BTW nice GUI!
