What I have always wanted to know with TOEE is why there are no horses or mules or pack animals of any kind to buy, and possibly ride. I remember back to my pnp days of AD&D I used to have a mule in nearly every party at some stage, and sometimes some of the characters would be on a horse. Don't paladins ride horses into combat occasionally (the questing knight) ? I would love to create a paladin PC and equip him/her on a charger complete with lance, or better a magic lance, and send him/her straight at the biggest, meanest mother in the enemy ranks. Charge ! Unfortunately in TOEE one cannot do this. Livonya are you reading this ? Is it possible to change the game to allow the purchasing and use of pack animals and horses, to carry things and to ride upon ?

In the module, it was assumed the characters would stable horses, Zert came with a warhorse, and Gremag and Rannos included horses in their items to sell (warhorses took a while to arrive though).

Errr Liv, if you could just introduce mounted combat, lance charges etc? The fly spell would be nice too - ok I know the engine can't take it, but c'mon, we really want it!!!

the engine wasn't designed for it. Making it work with the engine would have taken alot more time and money, so it was just never done.

Yeah I heard somewhere that the animation for it would be really hard, geting on and off horses etc, notice that most computer games with rideable animals have the rider stuck on the top forever, the only one I can think of that's different is Battle Realms.

Well, Sacred was really cool on that side. The animation was great and the horse was really useful. But I wonder what a mess it could be to have a whole party of 8 on horses!! Bugs, come at me!!!! :D
And, even if ToEE would have horses, I already image people asking "why can't I use my animal breeding (or whatever) skill to catch a feral/half dragon/celestial huge wild tiger and make it my warhorse?

I had a player who wanted to play a centaur/half gold dragon! that guy was strong enough to raise an evil wizards tower to the foundations in a couple of hours and fly away with all the loot in a duvet cover.

    rising an evil wizard's tower...

Ooh, loook my baby evil wizard's tower! bucci bucci, cucci cucci! It looks in everything like daddy, but she took mommy's eyes! How cute! :D
Aww... what a stink! C'mon mommy, call the stone-giant nurse so that we may change it.

    Er, uh...

...is "raising a tower" anything like "pitching a tent"?

    :)

I think the main reason is that most of the time in this module you're in a dungeon that's in a very horse-unfriendly area. Can't take them with you down in the toee, can't hitch them to anything outside the toee or they're dead when you get back. (And if they aren't, the dm didn't dm properly.)

    I think horses...

...should be allowed. Every monster knows what fine eating they are. And while the baddies are busy hacking up trigger for din-din, you can easily gain the upper hand and take them all out...!

    :-D

Ok, but seriously: except the animation, horses would require the riding skill, and they should be able to bite and kick enemies and to stomp them. More, adding horses would mean to add some variety, so light, normal, heavy/war, feral, legendary horses + paladin's special horse.
No doubt that it would be very complicated...

and still they would find very few use except in an adventure that has a lot of space "outside". Dungeon Siedge was cool because you could buy mules to bring with the party, but the concept was very different.
