I know that this is the wrong forum but I can't post in the correct one for some reason... I've had this problem with current version and the one before, NC. I've read the troubleshooting thread and done everything in there (installing to root folder, disabling firewall and anti-virus, running as admin etc.) but the game just keeps crashing randomly to desktop without any error message. It can happen after 1min of playing or after 50min or anything inbetween. Got this problem with both of my computers, they're both using Windows 7 64.

I actually managed to play the game to the end once with almost constant crashing and I'd like to do it again, but dunno if I can take the crashing anymore. :D

You have permissions in all open forums, including this one. Maybe you were trying to post in the Downloads forum.

Anyway, just random crashes? No rhyme or reason whatsoever?

Alright. Yep, random crashes. Usually after 2-3 faster crashes it starts to take longer before it crashes again. I've got the GOG -version btw.

Hm, well that is definitely not normal, but without knowing anything more it's hard to troubleshoot. It could be your system just doesn't like ToEE.

    Cadaveth,

Not sure if this will help, but I used to have alot of crashing issues, and once I narrowed it down to a posible video/display problem I did two things:
    1. changed the height and width in the toee.config using notepad to match my native screen resolution (Gaear gives instructions on this in the widescreen monitor sticky)

    2. I have a Nvida video card that came with the laptop and I went to the nvida control panel and turned it to "do not scale".

I have no crash issues now, of course I have read on this site to not have TOEE in your program(86) folder since that can cause problems....but I keep mine there no issues.

So you may just have to keep trying different things, it took a good month or so fidling, and using this forum to get mine pretty crash free.

Thanks for the suggestions but those didn't help, unfortunately. I've got Nvidia on my laptop and Ati on my other computer but the problem is the same. It's odd that the problem is the same on both computers.

Can you describe the nature of the crashes more specifically? e.g. does it tend to happen when you're doing some particular thing? Particular location? Particular enemy or piece of equipment involved?

It tends to crash the most when I'm in character/party creation screen. If I manage to start a new game, the game doesn't crash as often. That's why I managed to play it through once, although it crashed every now and then.

Stupid question and I apologise for asking it, but do so just to eliminate every possibility -

You don't use a ToEE character editor on your rostered characters do you????

I wonder if one of the existing character files has become corrupted in another way then? I wasn't aware that there was that much else to the character generation screen apart from a character file reader- you can certainly practise all sorts of abuses between the various generation modes without it crashing.

Crashes in game are different - they ALWAYS occur on entering the upstairs of The Welcome Wench if I haven't saved my game since the last big fight - provided I save regularly I seem to get no crashes.......

Helloes, I know that this is a huge necro post but I'll just tell how I fixed my crashing problem. And I'm running Windows 7 64bit btw.

I've played an MMO called Dark Age of Camelot for almost 7 years in a row now. I had some problems with it and someone said that the game can only use 2gb of RAM although I have 4gb. I downloaded 4gb patch -program that fixed it. I tried the same to TOEE for the heck of it and the game works nicely now. It's called NTCore's 4gb patch, you just have to apply it to your TOEE executable, not sure if I did it to TFEX too. Not sure if it works if you have more than 4gb ram.

Thanks - that could be highly significant.
