I will agree with others that the AOH is just fine as it is. IF it had to be updated for a higher CR set of battles, then keeping the 3rd battle would be fine for a 1st fight. On another note, is it possible or feasible to add incorporeal undead into the game? That and level drains would be a factor for several set of battles in the game. If this has been addressed, please ignore. Just was not worth the time to search.
I just finished the arena in mod 7.0. Like always I cast a web spell in the spota where the last wizard and his giants are going to appear. It's a littel bit sad that the giants when they finally appear only tried the first round to break free, after that they just waited to be slaughterd by ranged weapons. I just read that they improved exactly that problem for the cave fight in Hickory Branch. If you had cast web in that battle before it was way too easy. Now everyone tries to break free if possible. Maybe that could also be fixed for the arena someday.
You guys really need to switch to 7.1 - it's basically imperative due to the number of issues with 7.0.
Playing 7.2.1 and liking the AoH. One thing that bothered me. After winning the 2nd fight the first time I was really close to the spawn point of the arena master. After the combat finished I was instantly put into dialogue and ported out. I had no chance to loot. After some deliberation I decided to reload and change my tactics and was happy with the loot I was able to gather the second time around. There really needs to be a way to avoid being ported out without your loot. A dialogue option or simply not forcing the interaction when you are in proximity with the arena master. Even if the items stay on the ground and are able to be looted after the third battle it shouldn't be so aggressive about kicking you out instantly. You might need the money from that loot to shore up your party for the final battle. Stay tuned for yet another "arena master not showing up after combat" post. Edit: After completing the 3rd fight and picking my position to finish it away from the arena master I was able to loot a couple enemies but was again forced out when getting too close to the arena master. I have not seen anybody else in this thread mention that they did not like this. A couple weapons or armor missed along the way won't make much of a difference but, missing out on the corpses from the 2nd fight would really be annoying.
I guess the arena is more about a 'mystical challenge' than conventional adventuring. Hence, your looting of hill giant briefs is not a priority to the master dude. Also he's got his own reward in mind.
Or engage the giants further away from the area here appears at. If you stand still and cast buffs the giants get to close, so decide ... Buffs or Loot, well what's it gonna be ... feel'n lucky?
I guess I found a workaround and got bonus gold for being particular. Was kind of a lot of cash though, to just be incidental and that easy to miss out on. I guess it's possible I didn't see any other posts about it because others may not know or care. Somebody did mention a quest item being added to their loot list that can be found elsewhere though. Maybe now they know to try it and see what they have been leaving behind. If I wasn't so impressed with what is right with the modpack, I wouldn't bother mentioning what little I would change.
I remember reading in the 7.xxx releases that challenge ratings for experience would be lowered in areas like AoH and Hickory Branch to keep people from getting to high level to quickly and lose the challenge. I just finished the 2nd battle in the arena with the giant brothers and lost 1 party member(Dead) so the challenge was about scale with my party. I had 6 PC's of 5th level and a 5th and 4th level NPC to make a party of eight. So basically a 5th level party after dividing the experience by 7 (one member died) got 25xp each. That seems a little low even if nerfed thats what you get for the Kobolds in Welkwood with a party this size and 1st level. So was the CR really lower that much so that you only recieve 25xp for a battle vs. two armored hill giants?
The AoH battles are not CR adjusted. (They were at one time, briefly.) You're probably thinking of WotGS-related enemies.
Oh..well that blows that theory out of the water, so now it definetly doesn't make sense that I would only get 25xp per person for the 2nd Arena battle.
I just clowned around with the Heroes quest to see what gives and I beat them intact at 6th x6PCs. I managed to loot by moving away from the Master, but only few coins on the ground and non magical clothing&weapons recovered on 3rd battle. The undead&wizards scared me at begining, but the wizards are turnable so charged the wizards with a Priest of Pelor, the undead charge her and she does greater turning and many fall-and wizards ran off. If a party does not move quickly then you get the stinking cloud which is bad! So melee with the southern group helps. The spike stones wiped out undead coming from the north and east, and had the druids use call lightning and clerics use spiritual weapon to lure them into the spikes. Wizard does web on the giants and they get hit by range weapons and lightning(web burnt if fire used). scared me when the giants turned up,but part of the fun! The prize sadly is not as I hoped. I think 3 prizes, one per challenge is better. Appreciate anyway,it was fun.
Help! I lost my book of heroes. Cannot imagine how it happened, not like I can accidentally sell it, and I hoard all the diaries and papers in my nulb house anyway. I've done the quest to open the chest, but cannot find that darn book anywhere Am I out of luck? I looked through the faq thread (cheat section to add quests/items) and didn't see anything which looked promising. Can I reset the quest though? Re open the cheast and reget the book?
When you opened the chest did the person opening it have room in their inventory for it? If you open the chest with a full inventory the book is placed on the ground where you were standing. If you don't remember ever actually reading the book, maybe go back to the chest and press the tab button.
That was it! Thanks for the tip, I really didn't remember much about when I opened the chest, other than that I wasn't ready for the arena so I never looked for the book until later.
