    Heya,

I was almost in despair last night trying to install this game and this mod. Not real despair, mind you, but video-game-ain't-working-I'm-bored despair. Which is, I suppose, mere frustration.

I think I hit, literally, every roadblock in installing this game. Issues with movie files, weird issues with the installation directory, random crashes during boot, at the menu, and in game.

Once I'd fixed the many, many issues my computer had, I moved on to applying the NC modpack. I'd read the warnings about letting Front-End X run. But after about two or three minutes, I gave the ole' 3-fingered salute and found that Front-End X wasn't responding. So I killed it. Which left me with a deleted temple.dll file. I didn't realize that the repair utility would help, so I reinstalled. Four times, trying various fixes to make Front-End X work. My last ditch effort? To apply the NC modpack in bloody safe mode. I know, stupid, yeah?

Fifth install. I apply the modpack and then real life sucks me out of my computer for a bit. 35 minutes later, it gives me a notification that it was done installing.

I'm ballparking that, but an entire, commercial-free episode of The Simpsons finished, AFTER my RL drama.

The game and the mod worked like a dream. A very good dream. Outstanding work!

This is a warning to anyone else who is new to ToEE and the CoE modpack: let the damn Front-End X run as long as it needs. It isn't responding because it's BUSY.

Oh, and right after my first session with this mod, one of my mother's dogs destroyed my computer.

So as I write this, I'm doing it all over again on a new system. :)

    Happy New Years everyone!

Glad you got it working. For the record, this is the main reason why we plaster the 'don't interrupt this operation' warning everywhere - including the um application itself while it is running. ;)

The application says it in more than enough places--I'm an impatient guy. :) I hope that mentioning the time it took for me, however, will assure newcomers who had similar installation problems.

Again, thank you so much for this mod. Your dedication is awesome, the mod is awesome, and it makes what would have been a disappointing investment in an old game into one of the most valuable purchases I've made in a long time, entertainment-wise.

I'm a professional editor and writer (in that order, sadly), and I'd be happy to help with dialogue and descriptions in future.

Oh--and this is mostly for people who find this on Google while they're troubleshooting--even if the graphics on Front-End X mess up and the task manager says it isn't responding, give the program plenty of time. For me, a few minutes after starting to apply the mod, the window on Front-End X become non-interactive and lost all graphics, which helped re-enforce my idea that the program wasn't working.
