I've been in Verbobonc and I've not been ambushed by Turuko, Zert... at the moathouse. In the party I have 5 characters and Otis. The other day I hired Zert, and I went for adventures, I traveled to various locations and when I returned to Hommlet, I entered the inn and Otis turned against me and all the guests did the same!!
I reloaded a previous save, then I removed Zert of the party, I re-entered the inn, and nobody attacked me, neither Otis.
I have the 7.4.1 version. And in any case I have the reputation "Butcher of Hommlet".
Seems that this is a bug, right?

    Re: Otis Otis!!!!

You can get the butcher of homlette rep if you take npc's from homlette and they get killed. Even if you get them resurrected you still get the rep. The third person who dies from the village will give you the rep.

    Re: Otis Otis!!!!

Is not my case. The only people I killed in Hommlet have been Rannos and Gremag. And besides these, there is no other person has died there.
In my opinion what happened to me is a bug...

I think the game flags Zert as a bad guy after the moat house and having him in your party may have gotten you Guilt by Association.

    This is just a speculation.

If this were so it would not be too correct considering that I'm the "moathouse cleaner" and the hero of hommlet.
The most logical thing, for me, would be that nobody relate them to the moathouse or if they did, Zert & Co should not continue in Hommlet and flee to another place.
In my modest opinion, that should be corrected...

    Good point.

Again, what I said was merely my speculation, you may be on to something here.

I bet Gaear or Ted will have a more exact answer as to why and how these things happened.

    It's a bug!! :p

@gundar, you already had the Butch rep before being attacked in the inn? Otherwise it's probably that someone in there just had a KOS reaction for whatever reason (could be any number of things, like Spugnoir casting his buffs) and when that happens, everyone automatically divvies up according to their factions. Otis is scripted to turn if people he likes (good NPCs) are attacked, so that bit would be normal. Did he have a float line denouncing you?

Strange, he probably shouldn't have done that.

No, I had not the "Butcher of Hommlet" reputation before being attacked neither after (I didn't kill anyone, I just left them unconscious). And yes, Otis had a float line denouncing me!
I continued playing, I killed to Zert, Turuko and Kobort; then returned to Hommlet and nobody attacked me! And I still have not the "Butch rep...".

Gaear, as I did not get the ambush of Zert, Kobort... at the Moathouse, I take the opportunity to ask you if there was a way to simulate the conditions to appear the ghosts in the castle.

    Thanks in advance

I don't understand, you killed Zert, Toruko and Kobort but you didn't get the ambush?

The ambush is when you get to fight them, or did you kind of assassinate them?

Zert, Kobort, and Turuko are not part of any Hommlet faction so killing them doesn't give you the Butcher rep.

I didn't get the ambush when I assaulted the Moathouse long ago.

Recently, I killed Zert when I removed him of the party and he turned against me. Later I killed Toruko and Kobort fighting against them (simply because they are not legit and give me trouble with Hommlet factions).

I already realized that Gaear, but what about a possible way to simulate the conditions to appear the ghosts in the castle? Can you think of anything about that?

Pardon for my english, is very limited.

I really prefer not to give out console codes for every thing under the sun, because in the aggregate that tends to transform the game into a simulation, lol. (Various console codes to bring about desired conditions become widely known; players use them; players stop 'playing' the game.)

You didn't get ambushed. When you don't get ambushed, nothing happens at the castle. That's not a bug or an omission; it's the way it's supposed to be. Just deal with it and maybe next time you play you'll have ghosts.

I've often played this game with 5 NPCs in my party, and I've found that when you start doing evil deeds like attacking innocent non-evil NPCs, certain NPCs in your party will remain loyal to you but certain NPCs (such as Elmo) in your party will immediately turn against you in disgust of your vile action.

I believe I've found a work around to avoid "good" NPCs in your party turning against you whenever you do a wicked deed like attacking a charmed character - if you move the do-gooder NPC (who is in your adventuring party) out of line-of-sight of where you commit the foul deed, then I believe that the goody 2-shoes NPC will not turn against you when you commit the wicked deed. Of course, this only works on maps that have FOW (fog of war). Correct me if I am wrong.
