Yes, it is very restrictive. Upon reaching 5th level, and at every third bard level after that (8th, 11th, and so on), a bard can choose to learn a new spell in place of one he already knows. In effect, the bard "loses" the old spell in exchange for the new one. The new spell’s level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged, and it must be at least two levels lower than the highest-level bard spell the bard can cast. A bard may swap only a single spell at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that he gains new spells known for the level.

At the moment, my bard is lvl11, but I think to give him rather levels as a fighter from now on. One of my bad choices for spells was "shout" (deals damage and deafens victim). I thought I could effectivly eliminate the ability to cast spells by an opposing spellcaster. But probably my mistake since he is deaf not dumb.

Current favourite Bard spells: various cures (auxilliary healer), Tasha's laughter, various summon monsters, glitterdust (helps make optimum use of rogue levels for sneak attacks). I believe that being deafened imposes a chance of spell failure but it's not something I've used myself (being hit by 2 sneak atttack arrows from a level 9 rogue has a higher chance of spell failure in my experience).

Yes very little chance of spell failure. In the fight against the wizard in the tempel who turns up in verbo if he can escape, it had no effect on the battle lasting for quiet some time. Glitterdust comes as a surprise to me since I have always totaly ignored that spell. Pen and Paper wise as well as computer games are concerned. But I will definetly try that one in the manner you proposed. Thanks.

Glitterdust is an excellent spell for for rogue support and for voiding enemy invisibility. My rogue gets multiple sneak attacks with her longbow.

General Ghoul is correct. In my current playthrough of 7.5.0 NC, Zaxis joined my party and I levelled him up from a level 5 bard to a level 9 bard. During 1 of the level ups (and 1 level up only!), I noticed a rectangle around one of his known level 1 spells. Left-clicking on any other of his known level 1 spells caused the rectangle to surround that spell instead. I left-clicked and dragged the spell (within the rectangle) (that he currently knew) over to the list of selectable spells (on the left side of the spell list interface) (which left an empty spell slot in his known spells list) and then left-clicked and dragged the spell (that I wanted him to be able to cast) (from the spell list on the left side of the interface) over to his empty known spell slot (on the right side of the spell list interface). But that was the only spell that I was able to swap.

I wish that I had kept levelling Zaxis up as a single class bard because he would be FAR more useful than the bard 9 / cleric X that he is now in my party.

In the screenshot below, you can see that I replaced Zaxis' known level 1 spell Sleep with the spell Grease:

Are you guys aware that you can just right click any available spell and it will automatically go the proper empty spell slot?

No, I did not know that -- thanks.

There are other things that either are not in the manual, or disguised somehow.

Right click on your character icon at the bottom of the screen opens up the inventory pop-up.

I could never find how to do a save game other than quick save -- until I happened to hit the ESC key for some unknown reason. I have searched the manual and have not been able to find that action.

Wonder what else is lurking out there?

No Sir. Sorry but that was the first thing I tried. Does not work with bard spell list. (Different from wizard). It's really as complicated as described above: Only spells from certain levels when you level up.

Right click to assign feats, right click to place dead baddies loot into your inventory.

Left click to open dead guys inventory and right click on an item to switch it to your inventory.

Right click to equip a weapon or armor from your inventory.

The time to right click has come, join with me brother and sisters and right click your way into utopia!!!

Oh, and the right clicking on spells doesn't work with some of the spells that have been altered by modders ie ... Higher level added spells and such.

I discovered the right-click thing early on my first run through. I think it was an a habit from WoW. Sometimes it doesn't work with spell memorization lists. If it stops moving spells into open slots, you can just exit the character screen and open a different character then switch back and re-open the problem spell list and it should work.

As far as bards and clerics go; I use feats for weapon abilities. Magic feats just never seem necessary compared to ready and reliable combat bonuses. I've never had a fight I couldn't figure out without spell casting feats. I still have no clue how to use counterspelling or what the point of ready vs. spells is because I've never had the outcome of a fight so close that I had to use them. My first game, I loaded up my casters with all kinds of spell based feats and never used any of them. I couldn't even figure out the UI to apply them. Second time around they all had crafting and missile weapon feats and I was much happier with their usefulness. Grab 2 levels of fighter for bards, and clerics for the free feats and attack bonus. Then go whack something.

When you "ready vs. spell", your character waits untill the first enemy spellcaster initiates a spell. Your character then gets an action. If you would damage the enemy spellcaster (because you put an arrow in his knee :p )there is a chance that the spell will be disrupted.

I guess I understand the concept and it works well for the tower group against me but, as I said, no fight has ever been close enough to have to refine my tactics to that type of spell casting defense. My dedicated artillery is better used laying down fire at the full rate rather than waiting on a spell cast to shoot one time. Maybe with manyshot and the right circumstances if it worked together. A pro-active fascinate or massive focused fire takes care of casters just fine on my terms. Fascinate is completely OP though. Having a created bard and Zaxis has made some sticky situations child's play.
