I only meant that it wasn't a magic deprived world in the fact that you can still craft whatever you want, that was my point, once you get to a point to craft the +10 weapons the games about done to put them to the test

I ended up with +3 Keen with burst of fire, shock and cold weapons. They came in quite handy against a couple of the final battles. And they made other terminal battles possible, or even easy.

My favorite enchantment is Holy, it adds 2d6 damage to your attacks against evil creatures.

Are there any non evil creatures, (except for animals of course)?

And yes, I'm aware that if you're running an evil party Holy becomes almost useless. ;)

Alan of Rickman - always good for a baddie. - I like the way he does his own translation for those who don't speak German, would make a great NPC if anyone can do the voice.

One thing I would love to see is an encounter involving that random adventuring party that's going south.
If you choose not to attack and kill them, they go south and have their adventures, but later on in either Hommlet or Verbobonc you encounter only one of them, who is horrifically scarred by what happened.
They encountered on their return a group of mid to high level adventurers who killed the others and took all their treasure. That one survivor managed to escape, but upon seeing you, begs you to take vengeance upon them.
The more vicious party (not evil or good, but rather mostly chaotic neutral with some evil in their group) is now a random encounter.

Also, more encounters with decently equipped enemies, not simply monsters or humans and undead that don't carry a damn thing.
I want to fight an Orc Barbarian carrying a +2 Keen Falchion and wearing troll bone armor leading a group of berserkers and rogues, all carrying other weapons and such. I'd like to see more random encounters of raiders and pirates of better level and equipment, maybe as you get closer to the temple, or complete a task or two such as clearing out the moathouse.
Something, but more is better, and I've always loved the fights that require thought and sweat.

I don't know if its possible, or against the rules, but having to id the 400th potion of cure light wounds is pretty irritating. I thought a high appraise skill who do that for you. It seems stange that the village tailor, whose greatest ambition is to join the local constabulary, has more knowledge of arcane items than a level 20 sorcerer or wizard. I know the cost is 100 gold regardless if it is id'ed by your magic user or your local shop keeper, but if your caster has craft wondrous item, arms and armour etc, he has the ability to create magic enhanced items so must, in theory, understand and see the enscorcellments on items he or she aquires. Either that or only let the tailor be capable id'ing clothing, the smith arms and armour etc. Maybe once an item gets identified and therefore is known to you, any subsequent items should then be automatically known to you. Not a clue about the practical difficulties though.
I'm aware that caster can cast identify on any object, but he is limited to the number of objects he can id yet again before sleeping for 8 hours, whereas a vendor has unlimited identifications. It also uses up the other first level spells for Sorcerers and bards so they can't do any other 1st level spells till they rest.

On the subject of high/ low magic campaign settings, I'be always considered D&D to be a pretty high magic system. Ironically, 3rd Ed introduced some long overdue game mechanics that might have freed rogues and fighter types from the tyranny of requiring multiple magic items (sneak attack and the various feat trees) to inflict signififant damage, then spoiled it all by producing wealth tables that more or less dictate that every level 5 character needs a +1 weapon and armour (or whatever).
Having said that, I like the way that crafting works in 3rd Ed, compared to earlier versions, where making magic items earned you XP (although this was linked to narrative colour- you had to describe what you wantd to create to your DM, and they would set out the requirements, rather than just having you buy components and know common spells). This at least gives some rationale for the absence of magic emporia: where do the salesmen selling these items get the XP to make them? It also goes some way to explaining what makes an adventuring party so special: it has a mix of characters who complement each others' strengths and weaknesses and value each other enough to sacrifice some of their own strength to enhance their friends. I'd be interested to know whether magic-using characters in PnP games come under pressure from their companions to take crafting feats and make them +2 gauntlets and amulets etc at the first opportunity, in the same way that pre-spontaneous casting clerics always had to have cure spells memorised for the fighters.
As A DM I always prefered limited use, relatively powerful items (flaming arrows, javelins of lightning, potions) rather than simple 'plus' weapons. The fact that they could be used up made them more valued. I'd agree btw that I'd consider even a +2 weapon with holy or a couple of elemental dice of damage to be at least equivalent to a +4 or even +5 weapon.

I completely agree. I hope that the Co8 team can figure out some way to make that less tedious. One thing might be to allow those unidentified magic potions stack with others of the same kind.

I never have a shop keeper identify items. I never have my magic user cast the spell identify. Instead, I have them learn the spell and craft a wand of identify. That way they never have to memorize the spell, just use the wand until it wears out -- then craft another one. The neat thing is that casting the spell costs the same 100GP that a shopkeeper charges, but using the wand is free. If you have a wand that is *almost* used up, you can sell it to a shopkeeper for a pretty good price.

I also never use that wand to identify scrolls or potions. I leave that task to a PC wearing a helm of reading magic. That is also free to use, and doesn't wear out like the wands do.

If your rogue has a high enough UMD he CAN decipher the script of the scrolls, well it's a hit and miss based on rolls.

I love the non-English sounding Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie reference here, but, as a DM, I am going to have to disagree.

Being Vorpal, it would be the quickest, cleanest cut imaginable, and therefore, presumably the least painful as well.

Heck even a Vorpal EGG would cut quick and sharp! (Don't ask me how a rounded item would be Vorpal, I don't know. Marvel Comics did it with the Black Knight's armor at one time though, so it Must be possible, right?)

    Just saying...
