Thank you. Let's hope I won't encounter any bugs in the custom content that were fixed in the later versions.

Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC Bug Report Thread

Just loaded v7.4NC to play TOEE again.
Big fan, what improvements! You guys are amazing.
Never finished due to crashes and bugs.

    Bug reports:

    - When 1st PC sneaks my two NPC's both also enter sneak mode (every time).
(Ronald and the Sorc/Wiz from the castle (can't recall name))

    - The magical chest from the zombie in the Moat house doesn't work.
It isn't on my radial menu and I cannot use it from inventory.
When I try to use it from Inventory it tells me that I failed to successfully use the item.

    - The figurine from Emridy Meadows doesn't work.
Unsure if it is supposed to. Thought it may be a figurine.
When I try to use it from Inventory it tells me that I failed to successfully use the item.

    - Scroll Bug, some are not readable / learn-able by Wizards.
I have two wizards and want to learn Protection from Evil.
I have purchased a Protection from Evil scroll from the scroll merchant in the Hommlet
Castle. My Cleric / Wizard cannot learn the spell and doesn't know it. My Sorc/Wiz can
learn the spell and can create a scroll - still the Cleric/Wizard cannot learn the spell.
Perhaps the problem is that a character cannot know the same spell on different spell lists?
The Cleric/Wiz is my crafter so I want her to know all spells - help.

Question: some spells are on both arcane and divine spell lists. Are the scrolls for those
spells hard coded as either divine or arcane? Are they always considered both?

Thank you for the great work on developing and improving this game.
    Cheers

Are the items you're trying to use identified?

The chest is not identified when you first find it and the figurine is also in need of identification when you first find it.

As for the scrolls, it might be a conflict for the game engine to define which class to use in order to allow you to learn/copy it.

With regard to the scroll problem, did you by chance fail the Spellcraft roll the first time? If so, you have to gain a level of wizard before trying again (or reload prior to that initial failure).

Wow, thank you for the prompt reply.

Oh, once the chest and figurine were identified they worked correctly - oops, silly newb.

Regarding the scroll issue, there is no option to scribe the scroll at all.
It doesn't appear in the radial menu with the other scrolls as an option.
So no, I have not failed to scribe the level one spell.
To clarify it only happens with the cleric1/ Wizard3 I currently have in the party.
FYI: Cleric was the first level selected in this case.

I bet if I had a Wizard first and learned the spell and then selected a level of Cleric I would be fine... I'll have to create a new party to see.

    Thank you for the support.
    Cheers

Your Wizard should know how to scribe scrolls. The option should be in the same section as the "talk" action on the radial menu.

If you are attempting to learn a spell from a scroll the radial menu selection would be "Copy" not scribe.

Scribe scroll is when you actually create a scroll from a spell you know.

Copy is when you Copy a scroll into your spell book.

Please keep i mind that you must know what the scroll is and be of high enough level to cast said spell.

You will also need to be in an area that has a green tent, (lower right corner of screen) signifying safe to rest.

EDIT: After testing this, I've come to realize the game does not adhere to this rule and you can "Copy" a scroll into your spell book anywhere.

Oh, and welcome to the forum odrew!

Also Adrew, if you specialized your wizard in a school and choose the two prohibited schools, this may be preventing you from copying said scroll if its one of your prohibited schools.

Not to derail, but how do you make your wizard a specialist?

When first building your wizard you get the choice of school specialization and so on, but only when you are first creating him/her.

Sorry for the lack of clarity with some of my points, it is my DnD3.5 history interfering.

To clarify a couple of the great suggestions and points raised:

    - I mistakenly referred to Scribe scroll in my previous post - I absolutely meant "Copy Scroll".

    - This character is not a specialist wizard - created as a Cleric1 then all Wizard from then on.

    - I have been attempting to copy scrolls next to merchants that I buy them from.
Usually in the Hommlet Castle or in Hommlet itself.
I am able to copy some scrolls, it appears to only happen with scrolls that exist on both the Cleric and Wizard spell lists. Protection from Evil and Summon Monster 1 are the ones I am struggling with.

    - This character is able to scribe most scrolls, there are a few that do not allow me the option. By that I mean that they do not show up in the radial window under copy scroll with the other scrolls I have. There is no option to copy them so I cannot fail an attempt, only because I cannot make the attempt. I am aware that if you fail to scribe a scroll you may have to level up before being able to successfully copy it into your spell book.

Thanks for the input, advice and welcome.
    Cheers

Sounds like you automaticaly know them since they are on your cleric spell list.

That is my assumption as well at this point.
It is a shame that I cannot cast those spells as a wizard.

An unusual case to be sure.

Ok so I slipped a few odds and ends into a box, slipstreamed XP sp3 and all is good

Just wanted to drop by and say y'all did a great job on this.

    Fantastic piece of work

Do wish I could get a hold of the source for the game engine

    Way to buggy for me

I would like to error trap the heck out of it

    Especially game saves

    too many CTD's under win7

    Some 7.4 observations:

    1. As advertized, marked decrease in lag in Temple L4 and the nodes. Went from almost not playable to easily so. I had a 3-4 lags in Temple L4 (5-20 secs). 1-2 in the nodes and none in the fire node!!!! Great job!! whatever was done. It's a serious improvement to playability in these locations on my computing system. This is in comparison to 7.0. I am playing games again after my oh, I don't know, 6th burnout and return?

Side note: I've never had jerk stop with the exception of one time in 7.0 during WotGS. Playing ToEE since 2004 and 3 different computing systems and Windows OS's. Pretty sure I overloaded the game engine's coputing capacity that one time. It hasn't recurred (yet), not even when engaging 4 parties at once near Burne's Castle. Have yet to get to WotGS in 7.4

    2. *Sighs* Castle of Lords problem again (repeat for me from 6.X somthing or other). Stopwatch icon only. No tents, yellow or green, Pass Time only. Stayed on stopwatch icon all the way through Fear of Ghosts completion (quest turned green in logbook, watched the omg zillion whatevers 'til they disappeared to end quest).

    3. Had the dreaded empty blue cirlcle issue with the daytime sewage worker (charmed at somebody's uncle's suggestion). He left sewers as visible, I passed time for day/night change to re-enter, try and find night sewage worker. Got a blue circle when entire party icon was selected for movement before re-entering sewers after Pass Time to night. I think it may be related to the fact he isn't supposed to be in the sewers/not-be-where-I-am when he's off shift. Couldn't talk to it (imagine that). Disappeared when another day/night cycle passed, got spell expired floating text as it disappeared. Simple 1st level charm person spell lasts 2 days at 13th level? Oh, well. I'm flummoxed on this quest, moved on to bigger and better things. Will try this quest again on my next playthrough.
