I found two potential bugs in the 7.3.3 version mod. The first is in Verbobonc at the shop that sells scrolls and wands. When entering the shop all that can be seen is the candles (the lighting) and the two shop girls along with my party, the rest of the screen is black. My girlfriend is the opposite all that can be seen is the floor plan and nothing else, no people no party nothing. Secondly my party that consists of five is battling the old white dragon at the end of the gnome’s tunnel and when it’s my wizards turn after her actions the combat turns do not progress anymore. Things are still moving and I can highlight stuff with my cursor, however combat does not move on to the next player. At first I thought this was because I was using a maximize spell on the dragon but when I reload and try something else it does the same thing. However combat always stops on my wizard. I did try an even earlier save but when I get to the dragon same thing again. Also maximize spells work correctly in the? P.S. I love this game and you guys have done a fantastic job. I keep coming back to play every mode you guys put out. I wish there were more D&D games for Greyhawk!! Cheers all.
Did you try having your wizard use a potion, or go to his inventory? Sometimes this clears a hung battle sequence.
That's a known bug that will be fixed ... for now it won't harm anything other than your immersion level. Now that's really odd. She might try the suggestion here if she's using a certain nVidia driver, or check to make sure her screen resolution isn't set to higher than maximum supported (1680 x 1050). Neither of those things would be specific to that map of the shops in Verbobonc though. Do try sirchet's suggestion for moving past the combat hang.
I managed to fix the combat situation buy choosing a save that was 3 saves back. Ironically it was a save from when I still had my wizards familiar (I had let my familiar go because of 3 reasons, when I increased the party speed through the consol command he was still moving slow, he does not level up like he should and dies all the time in battle and lastly after you resurrect him you lose your bonus. Mine was a rat so no more fortitude bonus). So if battle hang happens again I will try the potion thing. Me and my girlfriend have the same computers (I’m a tech I built them) however the monitors are not the same and her game looks great but it stretches to fit here screen and mine does not, I have small black bars on the left and right. There are settings in the nvidia driver that are for scaling (no scaling)and they are the same. For troubleshooting proposes our monitors have the same native resolution (1920x1080) and same aspect ratio (16:9) same video card (geforce 560ti) and same driver and driver settings. I did configure the toee.cfg for 1050x1680 on both systems. Is there any other relevant setting in the toee.cfg that would make a difference? For the magic shop problem. The black bars don’t bother me as it is maintaining the proper aspect ratio. P.S. we are both having experiencing “the rabbit hole” secret door bug. Can’t find it no matter what we try. So we will be using the console as you suggested in another post.
I think you can put the familiar back into your pack. I prefer the black bars too because it looks a little sharper with the 1:1 aspect ratio.
Being as everything about your systems is the same except the monitors, it must be the monitors. I guess I can't really help you there ... maybe fiddle with the display buttons on the side? There's nothing else you can do with toee.cfg except make sure video_bpp=32. Also, if you make a direct edit to toee.cfg and then change something else graphics-related within the game like anti-aliasing or whatever else, your resolution will revert to something that is available via the in-game system (circa 2003 - hello 1028 x 763).
I did fiddle with the buttons on the side of the monitor and found a setting that keeps the aspect ratio so that’s all good this did not fix the magic shop issue (scratching my head on this one). However there is definitely a problem with my wizards familiar. He died early on and I have used my druids resurrection spells to keep bringing him back but I have grow tiered of this so I’ve decided not to bring him back, after all he is not giving be my bonus anymore. When I do this that’s when the problems start. In combat no one can get a spell off, sometimes battle stops, I get a red tent in town and everywhere I go although I can still rest at the inn in Homlet. If I keep him I can no longer put him in my backpack. I sure that there is no fix for this other than if you let your familiar out of your backpack don’t let him get killed! Or you will be stuck with a rat companion the rest of the game. Anyhow this makes for a interesting situation, trying to take a 5HP rat through the entire game. I need to find a use for him.
That's a regular bug - it won't be resolved on your end. That's weird, something to do with the familiar is borking the sleep-safe/dangerous routine? Anyway, how you tried summoning a new familiar after it dies?
That's weird, something to do with the familiar is borking the sleep-safe/dangerous routine? Anyway, how you tried summoning a new familiar after it dies?[/QUOTE] I have tried to summons a new one and it seems that things function properly (I’m getting my bonus also the familiar gets in and out of the pack fine) until I get into battle that’s when things get weird when it comes time for my wizards turn I’ll cast a spell and there is no animation (just the wave of her hand) and the spell has no effect also there is no track of the spell in the die roll box to the right. After that is when combat turns no longer progress (there is still motion and sound on the screen and I can access my inventory but I can’t use anything). In a fit of frustration I spammed my space bar and combat progressed, this only happened that one time though. Edit; even though he died and I have resurrected him when I do engage him in conversation and ask him to get in my backpack and he never does. I believe that this is because resurrecting him never turns him back into my official familiar just a party member. I have never tried “raise dead” although I think that spell work the same besides I don’t have the save from when he initially died.
Update: Well the familiar that my wizard had died again in battle and I was so frustrated that I stopped playing, however that did not last long. I’ve been playing D&D since I was a kid and I love this game to much to not play anymore. So after 10 minutes I restarted a game that I had saved after my familiar died. At that time my girlfriend was having problems in the fire node with combat. I told her to be sure she did not have “scather” equipped on her barbarian. This fixed her game problem. These problems were the same combat problems I was experiencing after my familiar died, so I too unequipped “Scather” from my guy and continued on playing and I did not have any more issues in combat. So I don’t know if Scather was the problem or letting my familiar die then saving the game then exiting the game and restating was the problem. Anyway thought I’d let you know and now my adventure continues. By the way I don’t think I’ll be using scather for the rest of the game.
Scather works fine most of the time, it's only when the the AOO sets in that crashes the game. If you attack some one with fire shield you will take damage and that will provoke the sword to attack ones more and in that case create a loop which does not work. It works fine against most other opponents in the game. But it is more fun not using scather,, fights get a bit tougher without it, so stick with your plan of not using it.
Another potential problem with nc7.3.3 if I may: I can't find my way into Falrinth's tunnel- I'm unable to find the trap door in the brigand tower or from the round chamber near the will o' wisps on level 3 of the temple. I haven't tried looking with magic yet but my bard has about 10 ranks in search. I'm playing with an Owl druid and a Cat burglar (ho ho) in the party, but otherwise no hacks. Thinking back I found the secret 'blue' doors in the Moathouse without problems. Any advice greatly appreciated. I'm away from my PC for a while but will supply additional details if required asap.
I had some similar experiences with not finding secret doors as well. In fact I found none of them in the moathouse. Also, a question not related to 7.3.3 probably but is there some reason why party members will stop gaining experience? They are lvl9 i have the cap up at 20, and when fighting 'weak' creatures only my wizard who is alevel behind atm (crafting) is getting xp. thanks
Not sure that the XP gain thing is an issue- beyond a certain level killing goblins and the like doesn't count as enough challenge to learn anything from
