    All,

Apologies for my n00bility; I imagine my question is a rather trivial matter for you all.

My online gaming group uses Fantasy Grounds II as a virtual tabletop program, and have found ourselves woefully short on maps. We have agreed that ToEE provides some of the best looking RPG maps to be had and would dearly love to get some jpgs of full ToEE maps.

I've been combing through this site and others, but haven't found an obvious answer to the following question:

How do I extract intact original maps from ToEE?

    Thanks for your time,

    Olodrin

I would also like to know how to extract the maps. I am working on a board game utilizing maps from infinity games but like the TOEE & Co8 maps better. Plus TOEE is the easiest way for me to start building the game as the setting is so straight forward. (I would probably try to mod TOEE but it seems it is overly complex technically. A shame really as the game is perfect for new settings and adventures like the KOB & Co8 work.)

    Download this tool: http://files.co8.org/tools/toeeextract.rar

Put it in a folder somewhere. Copy the file ToEE1.dat in your modules/ToEE folder to the same folder. Drag it onto the extractor utility. A box will open up with hundreds of lines of code running by faster than the eye can see. When that stops, you will have a new file structure in that same folder. Look in art/ground and you will see various folders for maps. Look in them for separate 256 x 256 jpegs that have to be put back together to reconstruct the maps.

Then let us know here when you get to that point.

Ok. Thanks for the instructions. There are no folders in art/ground, only .mdf & .tga files. I suppose I need to extract one of those types or else rerun the extraction utility?? I clearly do not know.

(I wonder if life is better as a bugbear: so stupid you would no even know you are stupid or, for that matter, a fantasy creature--hey, that has the makings of a good messaging signature!)

Sorry, I gave you the wrong dat file. It's actually ToEE.dat (no number after ToEE).

Ok, that worked. I probably should have stated that I have Co8 NC 7.1 installed. my ToEE.dat file was in /modules along with the ToEE foldered that has map files extracted including ones from the Co8 NC. I know where to look for those in the future, I think.

Anyway, I have the files from ToEE.dat extracted to a working folder now

Yeah, you will have to get the Co8 maps from your installation itself. They are add-on maps and thus aren't included in the original dats.

    Now download ToEE WorldBuilder; http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2864

Follow all installation instructions, launch it, go to the 2D Maps tab, and hit the recombine button to recombine a single map. You will have to do this with each map you want to make whole.

FYI, Co8 v7.2.0 has a much improved version of Verbobonc.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I have been busy. I have installed the World Editor a couple times and get the error "...requires PROTOS.TAB" and then closes when I try to run it. I looked in the WB posts and did not find anything related to what this problem is.

You have to copy the following files from your ToEE installation to the World Builder root directory:

    protos.tab (found in data/rules)
    invensouce.mes (found in data/rules)
    description.mes (found in data/mes)
    long_description.mes (found in data/mes)

This is all covered in the documentation somewhere.

Ok, done. Extracted all the Moathouse maps (1st level is already recombined for some reason). These look great. Now I just have to resize them for printing to a good table top size, that is pretty easy. Marking spaces takes a bit longer but is easy as well.

I was not happy with my party so I installed and started a game with Co8 NC 7.2. I do not recall encountering 3 ogres on a random encounter at level 2 before. I killed 2 before the last one smashed my main character: reload. The pathfinding in towns is frustrating now however, you have to baby the party around town where before you could just click the ground anywhere you wanted them to go. Maybe this was changed for good reason?

You ToEE modders must have 20+ patience skills, or a great stress relieve outlet! Thanks for all your help Gaear. I am sure others will find this post useful as well as I found it from a google search.
