I just got jerk stop after having spent a pile of time in homlet crafting and selling to Burne assistant then doing the arena, I think it happens when zonning out of the inn, if you click something too soon or press escape too soon. wasn't there a way to fix it? something about reforming your party with the guest book? Yeah I just tried it and it works, you click on the party formation book and don't change anything when you go back it resets to "normal". I think what's happening is when you click out of the inn the game takes a long time to load (maybe it has some kind of check programmed there), but if you try to move your characters too quickly the game fudles which is in which party slot and two charachters try to move to the same space on the map which interupts their movement.
After virtually flawless play of the 7.1.0 NC modpack I started to experience jerkstop for the first time pretty late in the game. I only ever noticed jerkstop in Hommlet. I actually wasn't aware of the signpost in Hommlet and I haven't yet used it. It wasn't until I went to Verbobonc that I figured out what the signpost was and I did start using the signpost in Verbobonc. Let me know if it would be helpful for me to isolate where the jerkstop began. I have a lot of save games I can backtrack through. Thanks for all of your fine efforts! -Fred
We don't need that in particular but if you want to help test, that would be great. We seem to be down to 3 testers from 6.
Thanks Fred. You can test 4.0.1 if you would, per this post: http://www.co8.org/forum/showpost.php?p=113977&postcount=15 Note that you don't have to go whole-hog, just far and long enough to satisfactorily see if you get any jerkstop.
Sorry, I missed the launch. I'm playing now. I finished up a 2nd 7.01 NC - and I wanted to finish it because I encountered some jerkstop near the end of the game. It was when I teleported out of the 4th level of the temple directly to hommlet. I can't recall, but I think one of my characters was under the influence of an enlarge person spell. Certainly everyone was under inspire courage from my bard. I'll get moving on the old version asap. Sorry I didn't post sooner. :dead:
Hey Gaear, I haven't seen anything jerk-stop like yet. My part is level 10 still working it's way through level 2 of the temple. I'm almost certain I was further along when I started to see jerk-stop in the latest version 7.01 NC. I'll keep you posted. -Fred
Question for the jerkstoppers: do you play with 'clear game cache on startup' selected in TFE-X or not?
Hi Gaear, I feel fairly confident that I can isolate the point in my previous 7.01NC game where jerk-stop started happening. It seemed like a binary thing to me (first it wasn't - then it was). Let me know if this would be helpful. I can check to see if the cache was cleared or not. -Fred
That would be fine Fred, but jerkstop has shown over the years to offer something unique to everyone. I've been assured that it occurs only at night, only during the day, only when crafting, only when not crafting, only after level 5, only after level 10, etc., etc. I don't doubt that any of those things are true at the individual level, but they tend to become insignificant in the big picture. There's some common factor in the big picture that allows it to happen in all its manifestations, and that's what we have to identify ... and destroy! :transform
Yes. I play with the 'clear game cache on startup' selected. It's not strictly binary. It gets progressively worse. More frequent and shorter distances can be moved. I had a similar event on my 4.01 run. My first movement north west after arriving on the Moathouse map "jerkstopped". The second movement triggered the first frog attack. I don't normally get jerkstop on that map. I remember this sort of thing happening occasionally through out the the time I've played ToEE. While it's a similar event, it doesn't seem to have a similar cause.
