I've gotten further along and have a few more things to report:

    11)

I have encountered this as well. If I enable the movie intro, everything is fine but if it is disabled, lock up every single time.

    12) I also encountered the problem where the ghost in the Castle of Lords was not being triggered. I used the coding solution discussed in the Verbobonc discussion and it worked.

    13) I encountered a second Elmo in the basement to the Inn of the Welcome Wench. I do not go down there very often (like going back several CO8 versions since I last have) so I was wondering if this is a bug or something I should just ignore.

    14) The solution discussed here for the getting the WotGS to kick off worked (Thank you zebrainz!) - I had to enter Nevits house at night. Otherwise Arakais would not speak to me at all.

    15) On the fourth level to the temple where Hedrack is found, there are 2 bugbears behind him who are standing in the same spot. I realize that this goes back to vanilla but so many other character positions have been fixed, could this one please be fixed as well? Even just moving one a few feet away would resolve this. One is a regular bugbear and the other a temple bugbear.

    16) Once I kicked off the battling for the WotGS, I encountered a lot of jerk stop. It tended to happen as I went from one large group to another location on the map for another large group. I was able to resolve it by ducking into a building and then coming back out. It was almost like it needed the previous group (of dead bodies) to be up in their starting poses so the group that I was closer to could resolve their starting poses.

Aside from those issues, I noted a few other things:

    - I had a random encounter with 21 pirates. However, when I chose to enter it, there were not only that many pirates but about a dozen brigands as well. The 2 groups were intermixed but were not on the same team so they started fighting each other. It was hillarious.

    - I wiped out the people inside the waterside hostel and was surprised when Dala emerged from under a table, sobbed, and then feinted. Is this new to this version? I thought it was great touch to this encounter.

    - I have to add my 2 cents and say that I like the gecko pictures for the dragons. However the gargoyle images look good. Maybe have them switched where the gecko images are for the dragons and the gargoyles are for the geckos (with the geckos getting a name change?). Just a thought.

    - I think having the teleporters in the top room of the Castle of Lords works fine and I find that I can get to them pretty quickly when I want to do so.

Thanks Rocktoy, I tried alt+tab and I can start ToEE without intro cinematics and it didn't freeze now!

Nitpick: Could the Flaming Longsword +1 held by the fire temple troop commander be renamed back to Flametongue? I do believe it was the original name, and it's much better than "Flaming longsword +1".

There are a lot of people needing assistance on this thread, so this will be my last input for a while.

Thanks for the advice on masking spoiler text Gaear, I don't *have* a youtube button in my reply editor?! I don't think the following contains any spoilers, as I'm discussing what isn't working for me and content that's been discussed before in the thread. The list format seems a good idea, so here goes:

1)found Mona. The Gremlich encounter does seem buggy however - the last number of run-throughs the enemy has not initiated combat, requiring me to attack first. Saving the game at this point (before I attack) and loading save starts combat as normal. When I don't save and re-load and enter combat, the enemy seems unbeatable. The monster also seems to behave a little oddly (like not targeting my spell casters?) and combat often stops after blah blah happens, to be re-initiated by me. But when I do save and re-load, combat seems to work properly, and the only times I have succeeded were probably when I did this.

2)old man still attacks. I went way back in my game to a point before I heard about the stranger at Kentor Nevet's (in my earlier run-through I didn't act on the info til after many subsequent battles against Zug, SB et al - this time I did all the action I knew about except the slavers, and then went back to this information source and proceeded immediately to try to activate WotGS). I played it pretty much "by the book" this time, paying visits to Jarooo and Terjon on day 1 after meeting the Adventurer (and paying a visit to a residence regarding a particular sword I had neglected to obtain earlier, leaving the bride to pine however), and checking in with Adventurer on evening of day 2. And the old man still attacks... Seems like there is another issue going on here, as I am not having the same success others have had with the patch. Or is my game fatally bugged? Perhaps others are having this problem. At any rate it seems that this bug is fairly common to go by posts in this thread. Pity I can't just type some code into the console but I understand it doesn't work like that.

I have unpacked the V7 patch rar files to C:/Program Files/GOG.com/Temple of Elemental Evil/modules/TOEE/maps/map1-int27-village-elder. And I tried copy and paste for good measure. So I have no idea what gives here.

3)the problem I have had during the latter stage of the WotGS is the infamous "jerk stop" bug as described by MMonagle. But with frozen enemy, spell and ranged weapon problems as I noted already. And I have also had the "Hommlett freeze" issue at earlier stages of the game, with no lasting problems after leaving and returning to the map. But after my 1st go at the WotGS the map appeared to be kaput. I was looking forward to another play-through but I won't bother if I continue to need to charm Ariakas et al, caus it doesn't seem to be worth it long term to me or my NG party.

4)I had the RE with the pirates and brigands too, that was a neat touch, great to have battles which are a little different (but a bit inconsequential at the level I had the RE, as I fireballed them pretty quick - can this RE happen at an earlier level, thinking 2?). I wonder how many other interesting encounters are lurking in the NC game!

5)I saw the second Elmo in the WW cellar as well. As Elmo had given up his life in the first Temple ambush I thought of this as his ghost, down to change the keg, so I left him to it.

Here's another (possible) bug; The shop inventories for the two people at the Archer's Eye don't seem to be renewing. It's been a few in game weeks at least and Victor still has the stuff I sold him a while ago.

I just bought ataris'"DnD anthology:the masters collection" and I love ToEE,and I'm dying to try CO8 modpack 7.0.0 but its says I have to download patch 1&2 first. But when I tried I got an error that read,"file missing:any english".And I cant find anywhere if those patches are included in that release. So I downloaded and installed the modpack anyway and the game always crashes after only a few minutes. Can someone please tell me if there is a patch for this release of ToEE and the modpack too? Thanx

You can't download the patches, or you can't install them? I just checked our download links and they work.

If you're having trouble installing them, it could be because of your antivirus. Some AV software (MacAfee, Comodo, etc.) kills the ToEE executable and the patches look for it when installing so if they can't find it they will fail.

If you don't see the file toee.exe in your ToEE root directory, that's likely what's happening. You'll have to disable or maybe even uninstall your AV for it to work.

I'm not sure if the anthology version of ToEE is prepatched or not, so you should install the Atari patches (1 and 2) just to be sure.

    toee.exe is not a virus/trojan/whatever.

Does your version of ToEE require you to have the CD in your drive to start?

For some unknown reason, Good Hope isn't showing up in the Wiz 4th level spell list to be selected on level up...

Re: Circle of Eight Modpack v7 / v7 NC Bug Report Thread

My rogue ingested a potion of lesser sphere of resistance a while ago, and now it should have definately worn off. No spell effects (graphical) remain. The only indication of it's persistance is that my cleric and all other persons in my party can not cast spells of the third level and under, they all fizzle out when attempted. Is this a spell permanancy that Jaroo can fix or is it one that can't be. Like my cleric, which has the disable spell option in his spell radial menu, despite not having any spells cast, and it is there permanantly. His righteous might no longer works and he has the reach effect like he was a big size person.

When in doubt try Jaroo, Winston.

Are you a specialist wizard? It could be from one of your prohibitive schools.

No... I would have noticed something like that. Like I said (in another thread) it's not even in the help file. Open up Wiz/Sor 4... no Good Hope.

    Crushing Despair is there though.

Good Hope is a third level Bard spell only.

Aha, so it has been removed from the Wiz list. That explains it. Thanks.

It was never listed in the Help System under Wizards/Sorcerers, though it looks like it was available as a 4th level Sor/Wiz spell in vanilla for some reason. It's not one, according to the 3.5 SRD.

It looks like that was changed way back in Co8 v5 or so.

So who among you have had this dying Elmo / Butcher of Hommlet problem? I looked back and I see that our fix of that issue for v7 was indeed for the same thing, but it was surmised that the cause was if your party member who had recruited Elmo was killed, Elmo subsequently dying would make the game think he wasn't in the party when he died, which causes the Butcher count to increment, and when that hits two you get the rep. Adding a 'in party' flag for when Elmo (all Hommlet PCS actually) joins was supposed to fix this as regards controlling the counter. Even if it didn't fix it, it should certainly not have made it worse.

Who's got it and what are the circumstances?
