Your Favorite ToEE Quest/Plotline/Scenario/Battle

    I've to admit I stopped playing ToEE quite some time ago due to the crazy bugs/crashes and other odd behavior, but recently gave it another try and cause of the modpack 6.1 (I'm freaking impressed!)
    So my progression is currently only up to HB/arena/nulb-finished and I just started to explore the temple (again ^^). There might be more intense and fun battles but I consider the whole HB mod just full of epic awesomeness! Great mix of groups, specially the group after the beast master (ogre/cleric and some charging fellas) - uhm besides the dire bear :p
    My lil guys (halfling only party *g*) just walked around the map and I heard kinda growling and then he was just there! Yet my bard managed to confuse & glitterdust' the 'cuddle animal' after 3 reloads, cause he does hit hard if he connects and he does hit *very* often (afaik his to-hit modifier was +13?).
    I guess the whole map is hard as hell without any damage reducing or disabling spells at all - it favours stuff like glitterdust/stinking cloud/paralyze/(sleep?) and even 'lesser confusion'.
    I even had to reload several times just to beat the stupid minotaur :Þ

    Besides this map (and the 'wtf-3rd-arena-wave!') I was surprised/shocked by the new overhauled 'Imeryds Run' map. Having the kingsfrog in your back (and he does ALWAYS go for my wizard! damn him ^^) and you have to counter the charge of the sea hag & lizards. ( I might be wrong, but as far as I remember, you could beat the frog and the sea hag separately in either vanilla ToEE or some very early Co8 mod)

    Honestly, my very first cool battle was right after getting ToEE and meeting trolls on a random encounter! I was out of spells and didn't know 'coup de grace' does work as well .... they gave me a very hard time back then.

    I didn't mean it like that! The work you guys have done is definitely awesome. I just mean that from first impressions, I really enjoyed ToEE. Ingame stuff I like is probably Nulb the most. In vanilla (before the Co8 mod), when I played through, Nulb was so fun to go to, to own the house of my own. I made it my base, and the chests to store stuff was pretty cool too. Now you've 1up'd it with Verbo castle, but for a RP average party, I might not want to be a rich aristocrat. That ol house in nulb was my favorite base.

    I LOVE the beautiful music on the Hommlet map!

    When I speak to Elmo, I am amused by his comments, accent, and his drunken stupour. "Just give me some armour & a BIG axe".

    When I woo & recruit Meleny into my party, I am enchanted by her beautiful & cute voice & what she says. "Ooh, look at all of those shiny things!"

    I LOVE the beautiful music on the Moathouse map!

    The first time that I played Sitra Achara's mod where Lareth now joins the combat with his troops, it was the most intense & fun combat that I've ever played in the game because my party was evenly matched with the enemy & the outcome of the battle could have gone either way for most of the battle. Thanks Sitra.

    The combat where I am ambushed by Turuko, Zert, & Kobort is always fun to do.

    Clearing out all of Hickory Branch is always fun to do. The combat with the Fiendish Minotaur is good but the combat with Lord Hungous & his retinue is one of the highlights of the entire game because Lord Hungous is such a formidable fighter! (especially at the level that your characters usually are when you encounter him). Thanks krunch. Hickory Branch used to be my favourite part of the game until Gaear kept expanding the content in Verbobonc. Thanks Allyx & Gaear.

    The combat where I get ambushed in my house at Nulb is always fun to do.

    The combat with the tower brigands (in the broken tower) is always fun to do & is one of the highlights of the entire game!

    The Reactive Fire, Water, & Air Temples are always exciting combats. Thanks Sitra.

    The combat against the Flamebrothers, 2 Noble Salamanders, & Bassanio (Troop Commander) is always fun & challenging to do.

    I LOVE the beautiful music on the Verbobonc map!

    Exploring & clearing out the elemental nodes is always fun (although the lockups and the incomplete feel of the Air Node detract from this experience). The Air Node needs more monsters in it that are hostile to you.

    The first time that I completed the 'Fear of Ghosts' quest, I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I exited the Castle of the Lords! It is amazing stuff to incorporate into this game! Thanks Gaear.

    The weird visual/audio effects that you experience in your Nulb house if you fail the 'Framework of a Murder' quest for Darlia. I couldn't believe how amazing the visual/audio effects of the "tripping out on heavy drugs" dream sequence was the first time that I experienced it! Thanks Gaear.

    The combat with the Hextor cell ('Monster Mash' quest) is always fun & a challenge. I LOVE that way that the enemy priests summon powerful random creatures in this combat, which makes the combat different every time that you do it! Thanks Gaear.

    The combat for the 'Contract on Canon Thaddeus' quest is always fun & challenging to do. Thanks Gaear.

    The encounter with the Slave Traders is always epic & a challenge. This encounter is the most epic part of the game. The first time that I was experiencing this encounter, my heart was racing, I was on the edge of my seat, & I knew that I was "messing with the big boys" & somewhat out of my league. Thanks Gaear.

    The Big 3 encounter with Turuko, Kobort, and Zert that happens right after you finish off Lareth. I'm an old school dude, and it's right in line with the original module and uses some original lines from Troika, if I'm not mistaken. It's classic, challenging, and the first time I encountered it, it made me shout out loud. It's the best by far, IMHO.

    Well it has been hinted that in 7.0 we will have more ambush type situations from the Hexties.

    It will be interesting if they may want to annihilate Gelflings on site. :)

    (having seen The Dark Chrystal recently I felt compelled to make a bad joke. :D )

    With my first thought I would say Welkwood Bog, because of the share depth of the background story. If it only would be scattered into pieces, which I would have to find out separately. A great new storyline open for finesse.

    But I will still vote for the Ghosts in Verbo. It is great continuation for the ambush and the Ghosts are nicely done. Also it is not your average “go there and kill those evil gays” quest and it makes even the most self-righteous paladin to think the consequences of one’s actions. Like the words of the Gladiator: “whatever you do in life echoes in eternity”…

    Believe it or not, I actually liked the moat house battles more than much of the temple... yes, there, I said it. ;) I'm still processing why this is so. I remember those moat house gnolls, they tried to bribe me into letting them leave. I only saw a few and laughed. Uhm... wait, more are coming in from the other rooms! Oh great they got my mage when he came into the room to get a better shot!
    Rooms of bugbears, no matter how many, don't matter as much once you're dispensing fireballs, maybe. But the gnolls almost got a wipeout on me -- there were more of them than I expected. That also happened to a lesser degree with the bandits in the courtyard, I only saw one or two at first, and the group ended up scattered around the place when the others started shooting. Maybe... I was just more experienced in the temple. (Yeah, I never played the game before circle of eight.)
    It sounds like I'd like desperate housewives too, from what I'm hearing, so it's a shame it's apparently not compatible.

    There is that room in the temple with about 20 bugbears, with a few ogres thrown in for extra fun. And most are in small little separate rooms, with even more in the attached hallway. Even with advanced spells, that is a long, though fight.

    As far as Vanilla goes, my favorite quests involved doing collection duties for the Church of St. Cuthbert.

    On my Chaotic Evil solo character, nothing gave me more satisfation than running around town shaking people down for gold and flour to give to Calmert for his glowing praise and thanks. I can just imagine my Half-Orc nodding to himself and goin', "this is my kind of religion!"

    The newer content, Welkwood was a welcome addition, despite my love for the Homlett quests, but I think my favorite (so far, as I haven't finished) has been Hickory Branch. This new area gave a great sense of danger from a massing horde. Numerous battles with a variety of opponents that really fit the zone, great dialogue, all culminating in that final battle. I just wish that after Lord Humongus' ego speech of superiority, he would have said something a little more, 'gawd damn!'-esque when that opening fireball killed two of his minions and scorched up the others nicely.

    First post. Way too many moments.

    The real Jaw Dropper was the 3rd fight in Arena of Heroes. When Blue Skeletal Mage drops the Stinking Cloud on us. THEN watching their undead pawns run into the cloud (cuz they're immune to it) and descend upon the helpless party. Plus an throng of paralyzers. There lies the brilliance of this mod, undead using every natural advantage they have and exploiting your weaknesses. Redo, Redo. Cleric gets initiative, avoids hits from ghouls/lacedons and Greater Turns undead, by sheer luck slaying Blue Mage only to see Black Mage and his Giant friends pop in!. Followed by Wizard spellcraft (actually being useful) revealing Black Mage's spell of choice as 'Phantasmal Killer' (I cringed)!

    My first fight with Sigman Redhand! The moment she summons her assassins, blue assassin shows up next to my wizard and orange assassin next to Zaxis (the bard is a trouble magnet!) But we got initiative and my chars were running across the room and actually making successful tumbles. Wiz did a first time cast of the recently acquired 'Phantasmal Killer' ... Blue Assassin DIES!!!! Zasix cast Tasha's on Orange Assassin... He's on the ground Laughing ! It was all downhill for Sigmal at that point. To my great Ire, that was a corrupted save and the Great Sigmal fight had to be redone with less spectacular results.

    ** Biggest Letdown: The Adult White dragon in Verbo. For the following reason: I'm oldskool back when it was AD&D and the Unearthed Arcana was a big deal. Back when dragons breathed elemental damage equivalent to their HP, 1/2 damage if save (not sure if this changed in later editions). But I was expecting death or near death from his breath and instead got 'refreshing cool minty breath.' Loved it when the dragon feared everyone but the warrior (never seen my warrior cower in fear), and Zaxis gave his 'he who fights and runs away' ditty. Wished it were Sir Robin's (Run Away!, Run Away!).

    Side Note: Dragon should have messed us up like the Ice Tyrants !!!!

    And Thank You for Modding this game and bringing back some good memories from the PnP module plus fun NC.

    I concur.

    The dragon is way too easy, at least if you go to Verbo as late as I, that being when only the Temple floor 4 (/Fight with Heddie) and the Nodes are undone and with all the “possible” items crafted.

    The Ice Tyrants took down more than half of my team in just two turns and I had to find a way to defeat the whole bunch with only Spuge (no other spells memorized but fireball, magic missiles and teleport), my cleric, rogue and Meleny with her +3 sling. Lesson learned: the percipient of wound closure is great but even better with some protective rings.

    Yep. This kind of modding should be the ONLY way how games are done. Not a single game purchased can come even close.

    Btw. Just finishing my first run with the 6.1 NC and another jaw dropper occurred: I accepted the Robbery at the Hostel quest and went to execute it. I couldn’t believe my eyes. All my four Paladins fell from grace (buying redemption for four level 14 Paladins wouldn’t come cheap) but when Mel and Spuge attacked me I lost all hope. Me likey! Thank you! More like this, pretty please. :D

    I don't think the dragon's ever been changed since Allyx's Verbo v1, so it could be that since the NC has evolved, the relative challenge has also changed. I guess I'll look it over, although I suspect it's statted correctly for a young white dragon. Maybe we could make it middle aged.

    Given the relative weakness of the White Dragon race as compared to the other dragons, I would say Middle Aged (Mature Adult) is a fair bump up.

    I too suspect that it is statted right, and only an age increase will make it more challenging.

    Don't rule out Old as an option. Of course with these you have to figure in more attacks and possibly even Mod in a Crush attack...
