Finally got it to work on Win 7... sortof

    Hello all, great game ToEE, i'm a huge fan of the Infinity Engine series of games from Bioware and this gem somehow got past me back in the day. My old gaming laptop which i play all of my old school games had XP loaded up, sadly up and died the other day from a really really nasty virus. Rather than go through the process of reformatting/reinstall i've decided to just play the old games on my new gaming laptop which has Win 7 loaded up. So far ToEE is one of the first games i'm gonna try to port over and i'm having a bitch of a time to get things running right.

    After poring over the forums and figuring out how to get the game to run with Win 7 i've so far gotten it all installed and running. My last issue is that everytime i try to play the game on any other resolution but 800X600 it crashes or does a weird hangup where the TOEE.exe icon shows up in my quickbar but i cant do anything with it constantly kicking me to desktop without closing itself. If i try to change res in game it crashes and if i change res with Front End X it either doesnt start or does that weird hangup i've explained earlier.

    Now it IS playable... but hot damn it doesnt look good when its so scrunched up. And my old laptop played it at 1280x800 and it looked nice.

    I really need help from ya'l so i can enjoy this game again! I just finished Hommlet and killing Lareth and my whorehouse antics has been stymied right now :(

    Looks like 1680x945

    Its one of those Qosmio gaming rigs with a 22 inch screen. I wonder if the non standard native res is messing things up.

    Crap on a stick, now it's kicking me always right after i click on play from Front End X. It'll take a few secs to load up show the whole initialization bar for a bit then back to desktop with the ToEE.exe minimized and totally unwilling to be maximized.

    Bah now i cant play at all...

    Might be (probably is) the sinister anti-virus issue. See the troubleshooting checklist section of this thread: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7743

    As for the resolution, you could try to manually set toee.cfg to those settings (it's in your root folder - look up the video width and video height lines and change them accordingly), but I kind of doubt it will work due to the odd ratio. If it doesn't, you'll just have to go down the list of supported resolutions until you find one that works. Hopefully it would be higher than 800x600.

    Not sure if this will work on your computer, but I am able to set a short cut directly from the toee.exe and play the game without having to go through a start up from the front end. maybe you will be able to do the same. Good luck.

    EUREKA! I managed to get it to work again with all of your help! Clicking on ToEE.exe directly (with all the compatibilities set) managed to get the game to start! And despite the crashing whenever i try to adjust the res settings in game or via Front End, tinkering with the CFG file lets me reset the res to my liking AND not cause game crashes!

    Thank you all so much, now i can play again!
