    Hello:

Does anyone have some suggestions on other turn-based RPGS that are less buggy and fun? I'm loyal to D&D - do they make any others that are turn-based? If not, any other company do something that resembles D&D PnP rules? I heard about Diablo, Balders Gate, and Dark Age of Camelot, but what are there formats? Too lazy for demos and too poor for massive game buying...lol...What about this game "Rose" that alot of people are playing?

PS - can you tell I'm just getting into RPG's? lol

well for D&D there are the Balder Gate series, 3 in all, they are pretty good. it will take you a long time to get through the whole thing. Icewind Dale I&II, i never played the first one but the second is pretty good i still havent got through it all the way. and finally there is Pools of Radiance it was ok but i dont recomend it.

The BG series was great, and so was the Icewind Dale series.

IMHO, they have been surpassed, however, by ToEE.

Pool of Radiance was a good idea gone bad.

    bad, bad, bad...

If you like scifi too, check out Fallout. It's a very old game, but fun nonetheless.

Using DnD, Baldur's Gate - although if ToEE had had a bit more lovin' then it would have been a much better game in many respects. BG is epic in scope, even if it leads to rather overpowered gameplay later on in the series.

Fallout for post-apocalyptic is a classic.

I'm not a huge fan of Diablo but it is fun if you want some mindless hack and slash in a multi-player game.

I can't really think of too much else - if it was good and was out, I'd be in the queue to buy it now.

Ah yes, Never Winter Nights. Available on budget and the mods for it make it almost worthwhile playing. Might be worth a look.

There are, of course, tons for various consoles, but not much for PC.
You can get a genesis emulator and play a lot of old classics on the PC, though. Warsong and Shining Force come to mind. The Front Mission for SNES and then PS1 and PS2 is exceptionally good, IMO, but it's more robotic mayhem. Good TB strat, though.

So far ToEE is the best D&D experience ever, despite its bugs (which get fixed every day by the community, by the way)

As for other D&D games, there are Neverwinter Nights (but IMHO mostly if you like the multiplayer network experience, there are some pretty good third party modules for single player though), Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series (very good, probably the best thing I played before ToEE was released) and then Pool of Radiance 2 (which I wouldn't recommend since it's the game that made me turn away from D&D for some time :-( ), then there's ... Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures (yay! does anyone remember this forever-classic thing? it's awesome!) and its modern remake Dungeon Craft (http://uaf.sourceforge.net) which is, however, unfinished and no one knows if it's gonna be ever finished. Both FRUA and Dungeon Craft are AD&D 2nd ed, as well as Baldur's Gate. Icewind Dale II, NWN, and PoR2 are D&D 3E, and ToEE is D&D 3.5E.

    Have fun!

Uhm...if it's not done, why are they using a 6 year old ruleset?

Black Dragon: What the hell? I don't care about Weezer either, but that comment was completely uncalled for - especially in a thread on friggin' turn-based RPGs. And what's with the homo hatred? Way out of line, man.

Played Balders Gate II, its not @turned based like ToEE but you can change your game options so that it sort of behaves like its turn based, otherwise everyone fights at once but its still pretty good.
One of my friends is really into morrowwind (had it since blood moon and tribunal expantions came out and still hasn't been eveywhere) and neverwinter nights but they aren't turn based. Some pretty cool weapons in morrowwind and drugs to would you believe, moonsugar.

Dungeon Craft was started as a remake of Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures, which was AD&D 2E... That's why it stays loyal to the ruleset that's used in the original game.
