I went and killed off all the slavers, without killing any of the children. Immediately after the fight, a child approaches me and says something like "Take the children to Verbobonc", to which I can respond only with "Yes". When I get there, I get arrested for killing the seven rescuers of Emridy Meadows and they want 20 000 gold for each kill or they kill me. I don't have the money so they kill me. Is this supposed to happen or is it a glitch?
Well, I've read it, but did not quite get it... In order for me not to be sentenced, I have to talk with the slavers first, before attacking them?
Okay, I tried but sometimes the female leader just talks for a while and does nothing afterward, sometimes she makes me kill a child. So, I do I attack in both situations or just in the second?
I don't know. There are number of dialogue options, but I have never tried them all. I always choose the one that causes them to fight me straight away (and not a lenghty discussion or child killing etc.). I think the dialogue options depends on which PC (and his skills) you let do the talking. ie. does that character have the skills to identify the lot as the slavers.
Okay, thanks for the help. P.S. I noticed that which dialogue I get has something to do with me having or not Darley and troll chieftain in my party.
If the dialog is failing at some point, that's not right. It's supposed to carry through and conclude with your attack on the slavers after the enchantment is broken. (Works reliably in testing.) Do you have an NPC as leader (left-most slot)? That's always a no-no.
I was finally able to defeat the Slavers today without losing anyone in my party to "Disintegrate" or "Finger of Death" spells and without the game crashing immediately after the battle ended and before I round up the kids and take them home. The surviving children (the evil Sorceress killed half-a-dozen or so with a poorly-aimed "Cloudkill" spell) were off the map when the battle ended, so I didn't get the dialogue option to return the kids right away. Instead, happy that the game didn't crash, we walked back to Verbobonc to talk to Viscount Wilfrick and claim our reward... ... except there were no dialogue options related to the Slavers quest! So, we turned around, went back to Emridy Meadows, met up with the kids, and escorted them home. Then I went back to Wilfrick again, and still no Slavers dialogue options! I'd like to move on to Wilfrick's next quest, but there doesn't seem to be any more I can do here. Is there a console code for marking this quest complete, or is it not that simple?
Please keep in mind that using the console is THE easiest way to wreck your game. 1. Hold down left shift and hit ~ (to open console) 2. Type from Co8 import* hit enter 3. Type loc() hit enter 4. Type game.quests[78].state = qs_completed hit enter 5. Hold down left shift and hit ~ (to close console)
Thanks for the code, sirchet. I found it after digging through one of the data files in my TOEE directory. I was willing to take the chance on the console this time... I fought the Slavers at least two dozen times, and with but two exceptions (one of which resulted in my leading Rogue getting disintegrated!), the game crashed to desktop, leaving me tired and frustrated. Now, I was able to finish that up and take on the War of the Golden Skull, which was challenging, but thoroughly enjoyable. The Lords and Ladies quest, I'm not warming up to, yet. Maybe if I had a party of twelve 40th-level Paladins...
The Demons & Demigods quest is actually meant to be unwinnable because that was the designer's (i.e. Gaear's) intention when he created it. So don't worry about not being able to win the combat because it is just a final test in the game that isn't really a proper part of the whole rest of the game. Think of it as an Easter egg that you shouldn't design and develop your party's characters in preparation for (because that would spoil the whole rest of the game if you create and develop uber-characters just to be able to win the Demons & Demigods quest). At least, that's how Co8 forum member Ausdoerrt and I approach this computer game and modpack.
