Inquiry: what portraits do you think that the game is missing?

Hi, i was looking back at the portraits that the game offers.
I think that all the ones about dwarves, orcs (but one), wizards and gnomes are horrble, plus it is really missing a male monk, a real male wizard (the one with white beard and cone hat) and a young male spellcaster, maybe a sorcerer,a blond with blue eyes paladin and a "good" warrior. Clerics are quite crappy too, but not enough to complain.
Please, I'm waiting your opinions, let me know!

Agreed on human wizard/sorcerors. Male halflings and female gnomes seem to be missing too.

IIRC there is a limit on the number of portraits you can have - isn;'t it 30-something?

I looked to my dictionary, since I don't know how to translate it. If you know some better word for it, please, don't esitate to teach me. :)
But anyway, I think that gnomes and halflings are not that big loss :) But still... I think that it could be nice to actually make a file removing some of the useless images (c'mon... too many horrible photo of orcs, not to talk about Miaee, the elven female wizard from D&D manual) and to replace them with someothers. I think that customizing the party is one of the most important sides of role-playing and that gives more satisfactions :)

I agree altho I don't really miss the male wizard with the beard because there is no male human model with one, and I really hate my model being massivly differnt from the portrait, but I don't think that there are enough places for every posiblity, I would love to have more female pics with there hair tied up but I cant find many as thats the main hair style i use for females because i think the other ones look stupid.

I like the portrait of moresh (I think thats the name of the pregenerated half orc fighter) but the others are not very interesting and definitly needs a male monk.

Wow, never knew it had a theological usage.... must remember that, right up there with 'eisegesis' as an apologetic insult. Neologism was invented itself in, ummmm the 1880's i think, to describe the process of inventing new words, which is a personal hobby of mine.

Orion, the word u were perhaps looking for was simply, "inquiry". Or, in context, "discussion".

And yes, certain characters have no pix. Female human thief?

Thanks for the tips about that word. Sometimes it is hard to speak in a foreign language.
About the portraits, the point is that effectively it is hard to have 1 for every character into the number of 30 slots available for the game. If it wouldn't crash adding more than 30...... Considering all possibile combinations of classes and considering human and evlen pics good for half elves too, as well gnome and hobb.. ops, halfing pics good for both races, excluding some hard-to-play classes like half-orc wizard/sorcerer/bard/paladin, we would have 5 races x 2 sex x 11 classes, so less than 110 ideal portraits. Impossible.

I agree that there are a ton of class/race/sex combos that aren't represented.

I wouldn't necessarily expect a distinct portrait for each, but the portrait options as they stand are pretty scarce. It would be nice if we had at least 2x the options currently included and of those... several could be generic pics that might work for multiple character choices.

The problem with the portraits is that if you mess with them in a MOD then it will screw everyone up.

Look at all the problems that happened with portraits when I released my mod. I didn't even tinker with these files.

Imagine the problems that would have happened if I had messed with the portrait.mes files.

I actually have custom portraits for my skeleton priest, but I didn't include it in the mod as I think it would cause mass havoc with people's games. I also could have made a custom portrait for the little girls in Hommlet, rather than using a little boy's portrait. The problem again is that if you change the portraits.mes file you will mess up everyone's custom portraits.

Until someone develops a fool proof program to handle the portraits files I think it is pretty risky to change these files (unless you are changing them for your own personal use).

It would be a deal, indeed. I hope that somebody one day will do it.

    Standard Numbering System

the big problem is that every one has done their own modding so some of the numbers will be the same. When I installed Livs I had to renumber my Meldling so it looked like a bugbear again becauses Liv had used the same number as me for something different. If some got the portraits perfect, then everyones are going to have to change and if some one doesn't like it then they're going to just change it back.

Reflecting about the prtraits stuff, I belived that ToEE had troubles only importing portraits for PC. What if we just add some more icons for some NPC that will NEVER join the party?
Maybe, if will ever come the time for adding a new adventure for ToEE, like a NWN mod, it would be a pleasure for me to make paints for new opponents! maybe a dragon, gee! well... better get start working now.
PS: may somebody tell me how to upload files on the formu?

Shin, what do you think that would characterize a human female thief - to make it to be different from other classes - in a portrait that has to catch face and just part of the body? What elements? Some action? Weapon? Clothes? Eyes/hairs color?
