I'm playing through the latest co8 release, which I downloaded to play through the fan made additions, such as Verbobonc and the Hickory branch etc. I have freed all prisoners from the temple, rescued Rommel and minced Hedrack and his supporters; yet despite this, haven't found a way to get to Verbobonc.
My group are now at level 10 and I really didn't want to be that high before getting through to Verbobonc; can someone point me in the direction of how I might get there?

When in doubt always talk to the smith in Hommlet.

Tell him you're "looking for something else".

Or, use the search feature of this forum and you'll find a more detailed answer.

I prefer the smith route because he's got other things for you to do first before the big V.

Thanks -- that did the trick!

    Spoiler Alert!!!..........................

It's been a long time since I've played the co8 pack; version 3.something was the last version that I played, and a lot has changed since then. I was a bit too powerful for the Bogs and, to a lesser extent the Orc settlement, but it is great to see all the additional new content.

There does appear to be a bug with the Smith's chest however. After opening the chest, the Smith talks about taking one item and offers the rest of the contents to me. Unfortunately, there is nothing in it and when I speak with him again about "something different", the only choice I have is "I should probably handle that business with the chest before I do anything else, shouldn't I?"

Unfortunately, I quick saved after opening the chest and my previous save was just before the Orc settlement part.

EDIT: I can see that this is a known issue: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8361&highlight=smith+chest&page=2

Is there any hope of getting to Verbobonc now?

Solved. My rogue's inventory was full when she opened the chest and the book and horn were placed on the ground. I didn't notice this until I happened to move my group somewhere else.

Yes, I've been more diligent about saving now. It's just that this latest release is so much more stable than what I used to remember earlier releases as that I was lulled into a false sense of confidence.

    Hi,

So from what I've read here you have to do the Welkwood Bog quest and the Orc Cave
quest to get the Smith's Chest to appear; and then read the book and that will give you
Verbobonc on the map? Also, how do you get the Arena of Heroes and Moathouse respawn to trigger?

    Thanks

You really don't have to do the earlier quests to get the later ones, you do have to know about them. Basically you need to keep asking Smyth for something different, but you don't have to do any of them to get the later ones, you only need to get to certain story states. I believe for the Arena you need to complete the original moathouse and to get the Respawn you need to have been to the temple. For the Arena you need to be able to open Smyth's locked chest, so either have a rogue or hire one.

    Hi,

I just finished the Hickory Branch quest and got the chest quest from the smith.
I'm having problems completing this one; I open the chest for him , he tells me I can
have the book and the horn then when I talk to him again he says , "I should get back
to work on the chest". Is there some way to activate the book ?

    Thanks

Read it by using it from your inventory screen.
