OK so finally I made it to Verbabonc. I heard tell of some merchants here, however the map is rather large and I found not a single merchant.....

I suppose its a spoiler but even in the opening scene it says its a large city with the benefits of al arger city, even says something about merchants.

    So I missed a turn somewhere. Where's the merchant(s)?

You can see "doors" on the map screen, so you can look around for places you can enter. If any map needs flags to mark stuff, its this one.

The ONLY way that you should navigate around Verbobonc is to click on the Verbobonc sign post (which is the huge mirror near the top right corner of the screenshot below) which is located on the outside front wall of the Verbobonc Constabulary (i.e. the building just to the right of Verbobonc City Hall, next to where your party first appears in Verbobonc).

When your party exits a building, open the World Map, click on Passage to Verbobonc, then click on the Verbobonc sign post, then select the next building in Verbobonc that you want to travel to.

The Verbobonc map is WAY too big! It's unnecessarily huge. So much of the map isn't actually used for anything. It's an absolute pain to run one's adventuring party around the Verbobonc map when trying to physically move one's party from one building to the next.

The only reason for the Verbobonc map to be so large is if there is going to be a lot more new content added to Verbobonc in future.

    Feel the love ...

Gazra, I hope you're aware that others may enjoy aspects of gameplay beyond the purely functional or utilitarian ... such as the feel of being in a large town, or the artwork of the map itself, or the 'immershun' effect of not having the inn right next door to city hall, next door to the local blacksmith, next door to the local jeweler? Some players actually just like to walk around and see what's what, get the lay of the land, look at the attractions.

Troika could have put all of the necessary interactive parts of Hommlet into a two sector square as well, but of course they didn't. Towns and cities aren't made that way.

If you're not interested in the aesthetics (or not so interested anymore after checking it all out once or twice), it should not be a pain in the slightest to navigate your way around town quickly using the signpost as you detailed above (which is the way the signpost was intended to be used, obviously - not just a coincidence). The signpost locations put you right outside the door of all the major locations in town. What could be any easier than that? When you use it effectively, you can spend virtually zero time walking around.

I really enjoy the large cityscape. It would be nice to have a few places that do nothing, like in Homlett. You can enter several houses that have nothing to do with any story line. Maybe even place a few red herrings in some to keep people guessing.

As of 6.0.0 there will be 30 or so new building interiors spread around throughout Verbobonc where nothing is going on whatsoever. ;)

(That's really to lay the groundwork for at least the possibility of adding stuff - NPCs, quests, whatever - to them later, but in the short term it does add to the feel that other people live in the city and other things are going on ... although those interiors don't have a living soul in them yet.)

    Hi everyone.

I've finished Welkwood, hickory branch, moathouse repawn, arena of heroes but I can''t get to Verbonoc.

I'll describe whats happened. I've killed Romag, went to work for the Earth Temple head priest and killed all the head guys in all the other temples. I've done all the work for the earth temple and still Brother Smythe doesn't mention Verbonoc. I've also tried joining the Greater Temple but even after I can't get the opening of Verbonoc.

Do I need a cheat code to get there? If so what is it?

    I'm using 5.9.3

Well, did all up to the Slavers so far.... I hate the Slavers. >.<
But it IS a fun fight, until the fighters ignore half my party and all swarm around my mage and slice her into small tiny pieces... >.<
By the way, I love how big Verbobonc is!
And I love my new castle, dead things and all, but my personal guard could be a bit chattier... =(

Well that expains it - you haven't achieved the necessary story state. You say you killed Romag and worked for the Earth Temple head priest, but they are the same guy. If you actually did get jobs from him, that should have triggered story state 5.

The variables reflect your situation with Brother Smyth et al accurately.

my mistake on the names. I didn't kill Romag, I killed his associate in the Waterside Hostel (tavern) in Nulb.

I don't seem to have an option in dialog that I think would open up Verbonoc.

What do I ask him, and can I still ask him? Cause he mostly asks if I killed the water temple head priest.

I killed off the snake in the kitchen and the two priests in the fire temple (actually with how it seems Alreem has moved I had to kill him to cause he was with his high priests). And I killed Kelno.

The remaining temple high priests will regroup now with all their chorts if any high priest from a different temple is killed (minus Romag and the Earth Temple actually).

If you want to force Verbobonc, type 'game.story_state = 5' into the console and hit enter. Then go talk to Bro Smyth.

I'm actually one of those. :) I love to poke my nose into all the doors of houses my first time through and see whats inside. The map for Verbonoc is beautiful, I'll probably cruise around it for awhile and explore before I use the sign post.
