Yeah, thats some bear Thats an example of where a 'dumb' AI would really come in handy - having a bear 5' step so they can better attack the mage at your rear rather than the folks in their face hitting them, seems so very wrong - but thats a small thing to complain about
Maybe he's smarter than the average bear? That's what we get for giving our pik-i-nik baskets to our Mages.
I'm reluctant to give anything away, but during the full game it isn't that unusual for an animal to speak, bears included.
I've bought it and I've liked it (I have reached level 11 so far). I think it's the game that resembles ToEE the best. My congratulations to you Blue_Salamander. The main difference is no prebuffing, only three most important classes, and every caster can cast spells spontaneously.
When I try to install the demo by running the KOTCDemoVersion127b.exe executable, I get an error message that the installation program can't detect DirectX 9 on my computer. I have DirectX 9.0c installed on my computer (I ran the dxdiag tool and it states that DirectX 9.0c is installed and working properly). My OS is Windows XP SP3. Can anybody please help me to get the game demo to work on my 1.5 year old computer?
Gazra, Download and install the latest full release of DirectX 9, not the web update. This will fix your problem.
I have the demo too and man, an aggressive AI is certainly an understatement! I gotta say, felt real good to get all those lucky shots on the bear and drop him before he ever hit any of my party. I actually killed the guard downstairs before he could alert the rest of the group in the main room. What a difference that had on the battle. So, yeah ... great game!
Thank you VERY much for your sage advice, Bob Corncob! (Your avatar really freaks me out, by the way! Psychedelic!). I installed directx_9c_Dec04sdk_redist.exe but I still experienced the same error message when I tried to install the game demo. I installed directx_Jun2010_redist.exe and then I was able to install and run the game demo. My first thoughts of the game: I don't know what all of the fuss was about the bear. Using the party that comes with the demo, my party only took approximately 12 HP damage from the bear before it died. I had the wizard cast Blindness and the bear failed its saving throw. I like the fact that the player can't use reach weapons or prebuff with spells before combat - these were 2 things that gave the player an unfair advantage in The Temple of Elemental Evil. I REALLY don't like the low-resolution graphics or the small area that the player can see on screen of the game world at any given time (which often requires the player to tediously scroll around the map just to be able to see combatants in combat!). Combat speed is WAY too fast! I can't see what's going on during combat! (I've got the game speed during combat option set to slow). I don't like the absence of a rogue class, and the absence of all of the other traditional player races. I don't like the maximum limit of only 4 characters in the player's party. One thing that I don't like about The Temple of Elemental Evil is the poor A.I. of mid-to-high level characters, so I am REALLY looking forward to the brutal A.I. in Knights of the Chalice! Kudos to you Blue_Salamander for making this excellent computer game! I wish that I was smart enough to be able to program my own computer games. How long is the full game? What level do player characters get up to by the time that they finish the full game?
Not counting reloads, the game is about 25+ hours long. You will definitely reach level 20 by the endgame. (which is the maximum) There's also a ton of crafting and epic fights later on. Demons, dragons, giants, lichs... you name it. Definitely worth your money!
