Hi Guys, Sorry to bother you about probably such a common problem Anyway, I always go looking for official patches for games before I even play them, and therefore I installed all three official ToEE patches, yeah I know the third isn't essential, but I'm using XP sp2, so I kind of do need it. But anyway, I came across the silence bug, which in my party of five, hit my cleric and my rogue, gee how helpful I didn't keep a backup save, cos I didn't occur to me it was a bug, cos I'd had characters silenced before in the game and it wore off. But I found in this forum the following two patches: ToEE_Fan_Fixes_V3-0-4 and moebius' temple fix. I installed both, but am I still going to have to restart, ie I'm guessing I'm going to have to, as the fix probably will only work from now on I don't particularly want to restart given I'm already level 9, and in Temple Level 3. Someone in another forum suggested killing your pc characters and getting them raised, but Terjon(sp?) didnt recognise I needed someone raised when I went to the Temple of St Cuthbert Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
If you use moebius updated dll you don't need patch 3. What do you mean Terjon didn't recognize someone needed to be raised? Normally you have to request a healing, tell him Raise Dead and then select the character you want raised. Did it not do that? Livonya's mod (currently in beta) lets you go to Jaroo and get permanent spells removed.
According to official patch 3, if you are using win xp sp2, you need patch 3, thats why i installed it. No, Terjon didn't give me the option, and I really don't want to kill two of my pc's. That's why I'm asking if I have to start over, cos the bug is definitely still there.
I have had this bug. I think it's a corrupt install issue, because when I did the registry clean and re-installed, Terjon suddenly became much more co-operative. If you reinstall again, use atari 2 and not atari 3 for patching. Atari 3 causes all sorts of bizarre glitches/bugs every time I've tried to use it with Co3. (I was trying to replicate a specific bug otherwise I wouldn't have touched the thing). BTW for your current game the simple workaround is to go to Jaroo for a Reincarnation. Should you decide to try a fresh install, I've not yet had an problems in putting old save games into a clean install. (Which is a guarantee that's not worth a lot ;P )
What I'm saying is moebius' updated temple.dll fixes the problem with SP 2 that Atari Patch 3 fixes, but is completely compatible with Co8 3.04. Atari Patch 3 is not.
Won't ToEE crash under XPsp2 though without the third patch ? That was the purpose of the patch to stop the game crashing under sp2 was it not ? And do I still need to put moebius' patch fix on or is there no point to that ? *is looking extremely confused and frustrated and thinking he should just give up on ToEE fullstop*
Do This: 1. Completely uninstall ToEE. 2. Reinstall exactly as recommended by Morpheus in this thread. Download the neccesary patches from the links he provides. The purpose of Atari Patch 3 was to correct the looting bug that arose because of SP2/DX9.0c. I'm not aware of any other crashes that SP2 caused. As Kalshane stated, the third patch in the above link, moebius' temple.dll, corrects the looting issue independantly of Atari Patch 3. Furthermore, Atari Patch 3 is not fully compatible with Co8 3.0.4, the second patch in the above link. (I'm assuming that since you came here you are aware that there are advantages to using Co8 3.0.4.) moebius' temple.dll does work with Co8 3.0.4, and adds a great many additional fixes to the game. End result: there is no point/need to use Atari 3. Both Co8 3.0.4 and moebius' temple.dll were made to work with Atari Patch 2.
Well, I just uninstalled, reinstalled, applied patch 1 and 2, then Co8 then moebius, and my game is still screwed. Silence won't wear off, and still Terjon doesn't give me a resurect option. So I guess I have to start over down the track. Don't think I'll play it for a while now, I'm too frustrted with getting almost all the way through the game, then get screwed at the last second
You could try... ...getting the Staff of Life from Mother Screng, and do the raising yourself. If you can't afford it, get one from the console by typing {give 4138}. Of course, you'd better have someone who can use it, first.
Lord Spike, you mustn't of noticed that I said my cleric had been silenced, which rules using the staff out completely. But I just found from what someone suggested going to Jaroo, and saw what would happen and how much xp my level 9 cleric and level 9 rogue would lose, and I honestly don't think I'm going to bother, cos now they'll never get to level 10. They went from 38,568 xp to 14,000 xp, which according to at least 3rd ed xp tables, not sure if 3.5ed xp tables have changed, drops them back to the equivalent of level 5 So I'm giving up, and I'll uninstall for a while shortly, and play another d&d game which I know doesn't have a stupid dumb ass bug like this. And before you say, I could try Livonya's mod to fix the problem. Well I don't like playing a game modified with extra quests or equipment, etc, before getting through it for the first time.
You can always raise your guys, lose the experience, and then just use the console to set your experience back to wherever you think it should be. If you don't know how, any number of people here can tell you. Don't rob yourself of the experience of this fine (when fixed) game. Part of the problem is almost certainly that the save file was made before the game was fixed, so there's going to be all kinds of bad stuff saved in there. Fix it and start again is a real option, especially since you can set your experience way up and just breeze through the beginning to get back to where you were. It's worth it.
It's not that I didn't notice... ...just that it doesn't matter. I said someone meaning a character who was of course not silenced. Some folks have more than one cleric in their party; or have a multi-classed cleric whatever; or can do as I did, and recruit an NPC to use it (Ashrem, if you know where he is...). You can also create a cleric, add them to your party at the inn, give them the staff, let them fix you up, get your staff back, and them leave them in the Welcome Wench for later. There are always options...I never believed in the 'no win' scenario. But you can quit if you want to...my first run through the Temple was without any crafted items whatsoever, and a sorely limited amount of clerical aid. As a newbie, I was very bad at using the interface properly; spells were limited to what my sorcerer, bard, and cleric had without my memorizing them correctly. The staff of life was my life, and each time the cleric went down, it was off to recruit Ashrem to help. The folks of Hommlet went hostile, you see...something to do with the demise of Elmo after his encounter with a certain hybrid Lioness... In the end, the demon queen still met her destiny at the edge of my blade.
I understand all your points, but I really hate going anywhere near a console in a rpg game cos I consider it cheating, for fixes that can only be fixed with the console I'm fine with that, but giving characters xp, after you needlessly killing them due to a bug, hmm, sorry I can't come at that. Obviously there's no real way to fix the problem other than the patches I've put on, and start over, I just find it extremely annoying and frustrating. Even more painful to load up the savegame and see the silence timer is 899/900 turns :wtf: I guess I'll just have to think about whether I will definitely restart :spunimp:
I bet you play paladins a lot, don't you? <knowing wink> I'm pretty by-the-books myself, have been most of the life. Cheating is cheap, in my view. It feels like I'm rare that way, too, sometimes. But I've learned a few things along the way, and rule #1 is that this stuff is supposed to be fun, and if you're stressing yourself out this much over what you see as a cheat, perhaps even giving up playing, such that you'll never see the incredible new changes that have come; then it's time to step back and reevaluate, IMHO. You have to kill yourself to get rid of a bug. That removes a LOT of experience unfairly. Is it a "cheat" to correct that problem? I say 'no'! You're using the console to get around a very annoying silence bug in the game. It's an annoyance, but the alternative is to toss up your hands and let the situation get the best of things. To me, that's a much worse annoyance. I say, hold your nose, suck it up, and kill/respawn your guys and then reset the XP. Take a quick shower to wash off the nasty stench of cheater's remorse, and then get back to fun! :-D All, IMHO, -- dulcaoin
*sigh* I really do hate ToEE now I did go to Jaroo and get raised, but I hadn't realised I'd lost two con points on both characters, but with the patches in place, I almost get through the game, and during the Hendak(sp?) fight, I get my cleric to cast silence on their clerics and wizards, so what happens I get two of my chars silenced again Nor would the silence wear off yet again. I went and killed one of my chars, to check to see if Terjon would raise with the patches and he continued to ignore, so even though I killed my char in the temple upstairs, and reloaded, I still lost the con points I did notice though, that my cleric had in spells: spells and domain and she also had dismiss ? is this what is causing the problem ? I didn't have her dismiss the silence effect before I left the temple of evil ? And does anyone know how to add stats back to a char like con points through the console ? *sighs and is going to bed*
