IIRC Excalibur was created by Troika, not Co8, at least it was in the Protos.tab before I started modding, and the low number (4025) of the item, suggests it was in fact the 25th weapon created in the game, probably used to test vs some nasty critter like the Balor Guardian, The Sword of Lifestealing is likewise a Troika created item, that unfortunately remains bugged. :(

An attempt to fix the sword of life stealing was made a long while ago, while Cerulean the Blue and Spellslinger were actively modding way, the problem lies within the hard coded portion of the game, the temple.dll, the problem is that while it functions properly against the PC's all of the time, when it is used by players against creatures with no levels (IE Trolls who have monster Hit Dice instead of Class Levels) they die instantly instead of having hit dice removed - now most of the time this isn't a problem, but Trolls regenerate and the combination of these two effects causes some problems with the game engine.

By all means use the console to use the item in question if you so wish to do so, it won't be added to the game until such a time as it gets fixed properly - if ever, and no, I can't fix it, it's way above my modding abilities.

The TZG scarab doesn't do anything in the CRPG, in the original paper module it allowed the wearers to pass through the curtain behind Zuggy's throne without taking damage (which it doesn't do atm anyway.

Sorry for bumping a bit off an old topic, but I've got some news.

How to create a magical weapon when you can't find a masterwork (original ToEE, patch 3)

I created a paladin, with str 18, cleave, etc...and wanted to have a 2h weapon with reach, but didn't take any focus until I got my hands on one. The first 2h-w I found was the longspear in the moathouse... took some nice feats for it, but never found a masterwork or already magickal one. So after some lvl's, I have a wizard with create Mag. A&A and a paladin with a normal longspear.

Then, I had a bright idea...

What if I let my paladin cast magickal weapon on his longspear, give it to the mage so he can spice it up?
Well, guess what? It works :) Even better, you don't have to spend the money for the +1, directly apply +2 and other funky stuff you can and want to imply :eyebrow:

Don't know if it works with the Co8 patch tho', cause that crashes with me...Nasty 0XcOO..7 error :(

It's been posted many a time, NEVER use patch 3. It doesn't work and should never be downloaded.

    Hi
I hate to say this but at least in KoTBFE ( Keep on the Borderlands Front End ) it's a classic case of "Good for a limited time only" . Yes KoTBFE will let you craft a +2 weapon this way, but it doesn't save you any money, costs you MORE Experience points, and doesn't last. Here is how I tested this. I had my cleric cast magic Weapon on my Fighters (regular) Greatsword. The Cleric then handed the Greatsword to my Wizard, who then crafted it to +2. I need to point out that, crafting the Magic Weaponed Greatsword to +2 cost 3,000 GP and 240 Experience Points. For comparison, I had the Wizard craft a Masterwork Bone Armor to +2. It cost 2,000 GP and only 160 Experience Points. I then had the party rest for 8 hours in the Inn at the Keep. Once the spell wore off, the Greatsword went back to a regular (totally non-magical) weapon.
I should point out, that even if a crafted, Magic Weaponed item stays magical, it costs you MORE to do it this way, than to buy a Mastercrafted item and do it properly ( with the exception of Full / Half Plate Armor )
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Well, the fact that it went back to normal makes the point pretty moot, but those numbers are correct. You're forgetting that weapons cost more to enhance than armor.

Adding +2 to MW armor is normally 4000 gp. Crafting costs 2000 gp.
Adding +2 to MW weapon is normally 8000 gp. Crafting costs 4000 gp.
Adding +1 to MW weapon is normally 2000 gp. Crafting costs 1000 gp. So the difference for weapons from +1 to +2 is 3000 gp, as you saw.
