Surely you could stomach legolas as a ranger though with archery specialisation (rather than 2-weapon like the movie ;)) He wears slightly too little armour to be a fighter imho, no shield, and doesn't exactly lead from the front in melee... his melee weapon, a knife, is clearly a secondary thing for him... nah I just can't see him as a fighter.

Gimli the cleric I dare say was because someone had to be... What about Aragorn? I think I'd make him a ranger too :evil_laug

The Sons of Elrond are more like rangers than Legolas. Most elves spend their time warding their own borders than seeking out the servants of the enemy. Rangers do both, so in that regard...yeah, I guess so. He's a fighter with enough ranger levels to get all the cool archery feats.

To me, he's more like Haldir than Elladan & Elrohir...

yeah that hit the nail on the head - I suppose I could have made legolas a druid instead and gimli a fighter - the thing is you'd prefere to have both as fighter types, but who's gonna heal them? without pack loads of potions or rings of regeneration - they'll all die either in helms deep, or the pelenor plains. Now whats the use in telling a great story, if the leason you learn from it is "I shoulda had a cleric!"

"Then Gandalf took a mighty jug from beneath his cloak. 'This is Cure Critical Wounds, the cordial of Imladris. Drink sparingly for we have only this one jug, but I feel we need it after the horror of the gate...'"

Well Lord Spike what about Beleg? Spent most of his time as a border protection guy on the marches, but also an archer par excellence whose woodland skills were second to none. Ranger or fighter?

I think we'll agree about the Cuthalion...Ranger for sure, with all the cool archery feats and a unique composite longbow, strength of heroic propotions (higher than racial norms), and probably maximum dexterity. This, of course, is to say nothing of his prowess as a swordsman (aided , no doubt, by the unique qualities of said sword...). Compared to him, Legolas is merely a princeling of the Moriquendi on a mission of errantry for King Thranduil...a skilled but not legendary bowmen. A fighter with some ranger levels. But riddle me this, o shining one:

    Turin Turambar...?

    Thou cunning fiend...

Well, I can't see why not a straightforward fighter. He has a barbarian rage now and again, but acts just as much from "the cold of his heart" too. He did backstab ol' Glaurung (well, sneak attack anyway) - also waylaid the roads north from Nargothrond when hunting for Finduilas (the highwayman!), AND hung out with outlaws in general... can't see him as a rogue though. Spent a lot of time in the wild, but by necessity not for love of it. A fighter with, lets see... growing up he has more strength than dex, but he DID kill an outlaw with one well-thrown rock... hmmm... inevitable side-effect of growing up being trained by the Cuthalion I think, developed an increased proficiency with the SPEAR - both thrown and as a melee weapon (since he used it in Brethil when he lay his sword aside) - but mostly has a greater weapon focus with the sword, and the usual melee feats. Smart but not overly wise, high intimidatory score and good charisma too (though not great, he was loved but made enemies too).

Edit - i have decided he is multiclassed, to reflect the different phases in his life, started a fighter learning from his dad, got a few ranger levels from Beleg, went back to fighter when it was realised he was always going to be primarily a swordsman, then got a few rogue levels from the outlaws (ability to sneak around and hide and creep up on passing dragons) and then back to fighter again when in civilised company. Make any sense?

    Crikey!

    I think you've nailed it..!

    :pelvicthr

My only addition would be Turin as a "fallen" something-or-other. Ranger is the obvious choice here, because paladin just doesn't fit...although the Dragon-helm sure makes me think along those lines...
