    @ Zoltec: The windowed mode reshack is definitely NOT present in this build, which is confirmed by the fact that no matter what resolution you choose in the menu, for the windowed mode it defaults to 800x600 ;) The Windowed Mode will be renamed in the final build to "Windowed Mode (800x600 only)" for consistency, the current build is experimental and, as such, ignores such things.

    Incidental random crashes have always been present in the past, what's important is to ensure that the game won't lock in the "always CTD" mode anymore.

    Yes, I'm aware of that, but I'm not aware that the 800x600 winmode will be retain. Anyway, I'm just confused with Ajitae's title i.e. Ajitae's Window Reshack, which, I believe that it covers all window modes. Though I have one thing to ask, who implemented the default 800x600 winmode if it's not Ajitaes? :)

    The default 800x600 mode was implemented by Troika and it existed for as long as ToEE existed (even before the patches). :) It's actually sad that this mode was more of a quick hack originally - it was probably never meant to be used by the end user, and that's why it has horrible mouse control and is limited to 800x600.

    Thanks, that was indeed helpful. Can ToEE read other than .bik formats? i.e. Slave_Traders.bik

    @ Zoltec: No, I don't think so, it uses the Bink Video library to read and display cutscene videos.

    I just wanted to check in and report that on my system Win7 64 bit I installed the new experimental version on the front page and followed the installation instructions as written.

    I started the game via the front end and it ran smoothly.
    So, I went ahead and goofed off with my party, (you know I missed sending them to their deaths for weeks now) and then exited the game.

    What is really nice is that I can restart the game and it runs, no reboot needed.

    In short;

    1. Installed experimental version.
    2. Followed instructions.
    3. Started game successfully.
    4. Exited game, (without a crash).
    5. Started game again via front end, (without re-boot)
    6. Game seems to function normally.


    Good job guys!

    @ sirchet: Glad you can confirm that this is working well for you as well! :) Glad to hear it! If it keeps up I'll release the stable build v4.3 shortly.

    Unfortunately, after further testing the crash at start up, (directly after initializing sector data) persists.

    I was able to restart the game 5 times directly after applying the fix, but then I let the machine sit for a while and now I'm back to crashing at the same point of start up.

    I'll do a re-boot and see if the game starts and how many times I can start it.

    EDIT: OK, have finished running errands and such.

    Again attempted to start TOEE via front end, (quick fix version) and now even with a re-boot I can't get past the initializing sector data part, well actually I think I am getting past it but crash once it is done.

    @ sirchet: Hmm, that's weird. Once again, there's nothing in the TFE-X log that would indicate a pre-game launch problem on the TFE-X level... Anyhow, we'll keep testing and experimenting. Thanks for the info.

    I'm one of those that are having the crash issue as well during Initialization. I will try the patch as well and report back.

    Edit:

    So I installed experimental patch and rebooted and no go. :( Still crashing at Initialization. Here's the log:

    @ Gjeffin: Yes, we're looking into this issue, it's very elusive though so it's taking us a bit of time. Did you try changing the video mode and/or disabling or enabling intro videos? It may help and temporarily relieve your issue.

    Agetian, please add 1360x768 on the TFE-X resolution list on the next ver. since TFE-X is reverting to 800x600 @ toee.exe execution, whenever I set those values on the toee.cfg. Thanks.

    @ Zoltec: I'm not sure if I'll be adding 1360x768 to the list of supported resolutions as it wasn't listed as a fully supported resolution on the list we go by, but I will implement a feature which will make TFE-X go by whatever resolution is specified in toee.cfg (basically, it won't revert unsupported resolutions on its own if you manually set a resolution in the cfg). Thanks for the suggestion!
