Does uninstalling using Add or Remove Programs, rebooting the computer, and reinstalling the dotNET Framework version 2 just not work like it should to clean up an installation of dotNET gone bad?

    ****************************************

How to manually cleanup a failed .NET Framework 2.0 install

    ****************************************

I recommend you try these STEPS to clean up your dotNET.

Okay, so you do not like WIndows Vista?

Have you heard about the Windows client operating system to replace Windows Vista? Did you hear the code-name Blackcomb? Did you hear its code-name was changed from Blackcomb to Vienna? Have you ever heard of something called the Windows 7 operating system to be released in year 2010?

    [cutting through the muck]
eewww...will include a new version of Windows Explorer that is being built by the same team that designed the Ribbon user interface in Office 2007. It will likely include some form of the "Hypervisor" (Windows Virtualization) technologies that will ship shortly after Windows Server 2008. It will also likely include the WinFS (Windows Future Storage) technologies, though they won't be packaged or branded as WinFS. Microsoft says it might also make a subscription-based version of the OS available to consumers...Local, network and Internet search functionality will converge...Windows 7 will include improved security and legislative compliance functionality - It will also enable enterprise-wide data protection and permissions...multiple device sync, management and data protection capabilities in Windows will be extended (be more network based)...It will enable seamless OS, application and data migration (migrating user data).

IMO - sounds icky and yucky... <- not a fan of Office 2007 menus

    maps in the ToEE game

    ****************************************

Maps have to be made as JPG pictures with the content of the picture in 2D-Isometric view (plus must be made or be cropped to be a pixel size divisible by 256x256) and added to the game by having the ToEEWB tool divide the entire 2D-Isometric map in to a lot of 256x256 size parts.
Then, you have to sector the map to make the outer broundaries and boundaries of walls and solid impassable objects, define what is partially passable and what can be passed over, and define what is water and the boundaries of the water, etc.
Then, you can make mobile objects for pre-generated, pre-determined NPC characters and monsters and their gear.

I hope this makes sense. The most important thing to note is pictures made from the start of a modding effort need to be in a 2D-Isometric view.

    models in the ToEE game

    ****************************************

The ToEE game does have models for monsters and characters on the game screens. These models can have different skins; complete models with skins are ska, skm, mdf, and txt files. Now, we do not know what is possible in this aspect, but maybe a toolset for a different game can or may allow models to be constructed that can be used in the ToEE game. But realize this, the basic model is unfinished and does not have a specific look to it. By this, I mean nothing distinct where each model is generic. When the ska, skm, mdf, and txt files are created, it defines the model, has a certain look and allows animation for a model. Also, there are two types of ways to add weapons, armor, and equipment. This is done through prototypes (in-game, spur of the moment) or is done through mobs (pre-determined and pre-generated).

Note: My understanding is the skm format is the actual specification needed to assemble pieces of a model in defined space.

add new races to the ToEE game

    ****************************************

Variant races can be added, per se. However, there are restrictions.

We cannot make new models for new races. We are not, yet, able to do this with the tools we have to use. We have to use existing models for new races. That means if a race has different physical features from an existing humanoid or monster already in the game, it cannot be done.

Also, to add a new race where they have a skin tone different from an existing model would require re-doing an entire new set of graphics to overlap any gear used by the new race - means making a bunch of new gear from scratch and the new gear being edited for color to match the skin tone of the new race. Basically, this will not be done.
    * Dark Elves as the Drow have been added [as NPCs only - with new head gear graphics], but that's about all that will be done for a major new race addition...ShiningTed + Allyx + Cujo.
** I added Fiendish Minotaurs [as monsters] with Cujo providing new skin graphics for it.

If an existing model can be used for the new race AND the skin tone does not have to be changed AND new race specific feats, skills, and abilities do NOT have to be modded in to the game, then, we can make a new race with just protos entries - use existing models with existing skills and feats and use existing gear [with no changes].
    * Rufnredde and I added Orcs [as monsters]. Half-orcs were already in the game. Rufnredde and I modded variants of the existing Half-Orcs in to different types of Orcs using just new protos entries.
** Rufnredde and Blue added kobolds [as monsters] from lizardmen.
*** Allyx added White Dragons [as monsters] from the ice lizard.

That should pretty much be the sum of it all. So, the answer is yes and no.

!!! Please understand that NPCs or monsters added this way will only be for encounters in ToEE and will not be available to make player characters.

Windows XP and XP Starter Edition on new computers

    ****************************************

Large PC manufacturers were slated to have to stop selling XP after January 31...to continue selling PCs with all flavors of Windows XP preloaded until June 30, 2008.

Microsoft also plans to keep XP on retail shelves longer and will allow computer makers in emerging markets to build machines with Windows XP Starter Edition until June 2010.

One quality shortcut... if you already have Co8 ToEE installed rather then uninstall it copy it to a new folder (I called mine "Co8 ToEE") then uninstall ToEE normally, reinstall it and follow the steps for KoTB install. This saves some work by not having to setup the Co8 version of temple of ToEE again, which for me includes portraits and voices.

    Unsecured Wireless Blurb

    ****************************************

There was an official security conference in the UK. One demonstration for the conference focused on XP SP1 and unsecured wireless networks...like what could be at an Internet cafe shop or at most hotels or at an airport.

    A demonstration showed two things.
    (1) "Getting onto the unsecured wireless network, pinging possible IP addresses of other computers on the network, finding Andy's unpatched computer, scanning open ports for vulnerabilities, using the attack tool to build an exploit, and using the malware to get into the XP command shell took six minutes."
    (2) "Mick then went into the My Documents folder and, using a trivial transfer protocol, transferred the document containing passwords to his own computer. The whole process took 11 minutes."

The response was to patch Windows XP to at least XP SP2 and also to enable and use wireless security.
