Been some years, thought to fire up the ol' TOEE again. :)

    Was thinking

Female human Bard1/Sorceress. Spokeswoman and damager.
Female elf Rogue5/Wizardess. "For the rest of the wizard spells." Crafting?
Male human Cleric of Boccob/Fighter 2 or 3. Tank and healer. Crafting?
Male half-elf Ranger5/Cleric of Pelor. Tank and healer. Survival enough to choose which encounters I want to engage.

Is this feasible, or should I stick to a 5-person party? I've tried a bit already, and had BIG trouble with the Hill Giant in Emridy Meadows... Don't know how difficult the CO8 NC patch makes things compared to how things used to be in version 4 which was the last I tried, I think?

Fewer party members means more XP for each character, so earlier leveling up. ToEE is doable even with a single character. I wouldn't worry about not having enough characters. There are some pretty decent NPCs in Hommlet to hire as well.

    I usually do a 4 person party.
    A Ranger/rogue (usually a half-elf)
2 Clerics, Pelor or Ehlonna for sun domain(greater turning 1/day) tale a level of fighter first for better weapons selection and feat

and a sorceress often with a level of barbarian first:D

My most recent party with Temple+ was 4 favored souls, Ehlonna, heirounious?, 2 Moradin

Does the sex of the party members really have a big effect on the quests?

All male, all female, 1+3 or 3+1, or 2-2 each, does it really matter?

You need a male character if you wish to access the holy longsword in Hommlet. I am not sure if there are any "quests" that require a female character.

"The Courtship Of Eddie's Herdsman" is the only one I can think of.

The "Courtship" quest is the only female needed quest while there are 2 "marriage" quests for male(and 1 male can do both:eek:)

There's also the "exclusive arrangement" with the whore in the brothel, which can only be done by a female (but can be the same female that does "Courtship.") But that's C08 content, not vanilla IIRC.

    Neat, thanks everyone.

I just may partake of a female player character at some point.

Thank ye all. :) My 4 person party appears to do nicely enough. Great new content so far. Bugs still do surface now and again, but so far nothing serious that I can't find a workaround for.

I'm currently running a two man, (well girls actually) party and they are cleaning house now that they have a few levels.

A half orc Barbarian/Fighter and an Elven Bard with a very "charming" personality, funny how quick the bugbears are to join our cause when she merely winks at them. ;)

4 PCs works out fine, even without adding NPCs. More XP to go around, and you can still have access to pretty much anything you want spells/class abilities -wise.
With larger parties, especially at higher levels, I tend to find that there are a couple of characters who end up with not enough to do.
The first time I ever played this game (pre NC) I rolled a party of 5, and picked up Elmo and Burne along the way. I don't think my rogue did anything other than disarm traps throughout the game; same the next go through with a monk. It was only by playing small parties with those classes in place of more obvious martial options that I learned how to use them effectively.

My favorite 2 PC party is:

    Human DruidX OR Human ClericX.
    Human Rogue1/WizardX.

Each uses Improved Initiative and Combat Reflexes with a longspear or reach weapon.

It covers the most important aspects.
