Actually, Dispel Magic can remove many summoned creatures at one time.

The balor fight can become even more difficult if the summons is another balor! Now you have two balors pumping out fear spells.

The balor summons appear to have percentages attach to them it seems to summon quasits most of the time followed by glabrezus and then balors. I once had the balor summon a hezrous.

The balor is toned down in TOEE, because it is suppose to explode upon death and deal 100 points of damage to anything in the vicinity .

The fun part of the balor and salamander fight is finding a strategy to defeat them. You have to change your strategy depending on what the balor summons. The quasits are annoying.
The glabrezu is a nuisance, because it can summon other creatures. Another balor is down right deadly.
TOEE is a game that takes patience, strategy and proper party management.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but no-one mentioned, vis-a-vis Shadows, but Blind Fight should make a big difference. Worthwhile taking quite early as a Fighter Feat.

Blind Fight should only apply vs. foes with concealment, not incorporeality.

You're right! So where's the Ghost Touch weapons then, eh? Answer that Mr Smartie!

(For the hard of understanding this is a pythonesque ribbing)

    Lareth's Staff (Club) of Striking

Does anybody know the rationale for changing Lareth's Staff of Striking to a Club of Striking? This has bothered me for quite some time, and finally deceided to inquire about it.

Well its a one-handed weapon for one thing - the pic opn the front page of the T1 module has him holding the 'staff' in one hand and a mace in the other.

Then maybe it should look and perform like the those magic light maces that look like a staff. Some temple clerics had them and they increase the critical multiplier, iirc

Thanks for the response. Was just curious. If memory serves correctly the original T1 had Lareth wielding a Staff.

Well it was called a 'staff of striking', and that may well mean a two hand weapon as it sounds (I don't have a 1e DMG to check), but the text describes him as weilding 'a staff of striking and mace', and the artist understood it that way too. So Troika no doubt had reason to think they were being authentic in regarding it as a one hand weapon.

I never realized that dude was supposed to be Lareth. Consider my suggestion, @ted, and change the staff into that staff-looking light mace. Then Lareth could be a sensible two-weapon wielder who could have Weapon Focus applying to both weapons. Currently, he's not too effective in melee.

Especially by letting the party walk up and surround him before challenging them.

Yeah, and I don't think he ever gets past the spell-casting phase anyway. Its one of those encounters I don't think we are ever going to get as good as a PnP equivalent.

Basil - I will have a look at the mace you mean.
