    Can I just be the voice of modularity again and suggest that there are quite a number of minor NPCs mentioned in the module - wives, brothers, children, apprentices etc - without us inventing any.

    To be honest, the Ami quests is just something I'm talking/thinking about at this point -- I'm not actively experimenting with it at this time, and am not likely to until I finish the other things on which I'm working (Evil Athlea, conversion quests, etc.). So let's just leave it as I recognize that the majority seems to be attached to it as is.

    There's plenty of room for more people. Just hope that the temptation isn't to give them all quests. ;)

    I'm sure Blue wouldn't mind changes to the uses of his scripting.

    That's the real downside to going nuclear on Hommlet. All those audio files which will need to be altered. If we're going to do it then we do need to make sure that we're not limiting ourselves because of any additional content which has been added.

    Absolutely agreed.

    It's certainly something which the community should decide upon before asking you to integrate into the CMF. Personally, whether Liv or Orion, Blue or you, Ted or Allyx, Moebius or Morpheus, I feel all modders' work should be treated in the same way if any changes are not to fix problems or bugs. Certainly for long-term inactive modders we should set some kind of timelimit for any messages requesting permission to hack about with their work. We've never needed to before though because we've tended to be fairly sensitive about this kind of thing and have given more than ample time for temporarily inactive modders to return to say 'yay' or 'nay'. Imagine if Ted's internet went down for a month and he came back to find that Frank had been turned into a sheep and the references to other games been removed ;) I think now more than ever it's important to do this due to the sheer scale of the changes being considered - and the advantage of doing it this way is that it may even encourage some of the old modders to return to be part of it and reduce the workload etc.

    I'd like to add something to Zeb's point here - it's actually a much more complicated matter than it might look... Whie it's certainly true that the long-term absence of one of the modders should not be a limiting factor for our upcoming releases, it's certainly weird to make it work according to a simple formula such as "if the member is away for a month without explanation, he's out and his work can be modded/added/rejected at will". Thinking of it, I'm afraid I can't propose a better *simple* solution, because perhaps there is no simple solution to problems like that. But I think that before deciding to change other people's work, we should do our best to ensure that the modder in question has left the Circle of Eight for good and doesn't plan to continue working on his part of the mod, and as such doesn't mind that his part of the mod gets changed by other people. While it may not be always possible of course, I think it's our responsibility to try and contact the said modder, try to figure out why he is absent and whether he has any plans to continue working on the mod, and whether he doesn't mind that other people continue working on his part of the mod.

    All of it, like I mentioned, is not as simple as a proposed "one month and you're out" formula. And the definite difficulties of situations like that lead me once more to earnestly ask all the active modders who are reading this to consider, just in case you'll plan to leave for whatever reason may be, to tell everyone or at least someone from the staff here at the boards, if it's physically possible of course, that you are leaving (if you don't want to state the reason for it - of course don't mention it), and please say openly whether you would like the others to go on working on your part or not, and whether you have plans to return or if you're leaving for good.

    Of course, what I proposed is not a solution to the problem - it's a mere pondering on it, and a preventive request for all the modders, but I don't think we should rush seemingly easy decisions either, because they are, after a good thought, not the best way out of the situation (at least in my humble opinion, of course).

    You guys can debate this issue willy-nilly all you like, but until somebody specifically instructs me that I cannot modify others' mods, I'm going to proceed with Co8 v6 as I have been for the last six months. Frankly, I don't have time to consider these vagaries, because I'm too busy actually working on the mod - indeed, working on the very things which will by necessity have to be scrapped if this 'rule' is born out.

    @Agetian, as site administrator, are you in point of fact actually telling me that very thing in your post above? Need to know ASAP.

    I'm sure that as you have restricted yourself to integration and fixing any bugs, no previous modder will have any problems with the results of all your work.

    Not sure what the issue is here to be honest, unless the 'vagaries' you are dismissing as being irrelevant are whole-scale re-writes of other people's work without any consultation with the community or even the modder/s in question? But as that's not happened since Orion, I'm at a loss to see what the problem is here.

    FY'all'sI, I don't know who did which mods for the most part, so I wouldn't know who to PM for explicit permission. On the other hand, given my real life schedule, I can't imagine being struck by the urge to change something and making those changes into a presentable form without having at least several weeks to have mentioned it and got feedback (including who to ask) before just posting it and saying "check this out."

    I don't recall anybody else just walking up and plopping down a rewrite of another modder's work without discussion first (but I'm pretty new here, so I'm not saying it couldn't happen).

    Anyway, this post is about Orc Blood in the Orc Cave, and I'm no longer considering any mods to that scenario, so I'll quit posting about other potential mods here :)

    @ Gaear: No, of course I didn't mean anything like that. What I meant was merely that we shouldn't, in my opinion, rush into creating some fast, yet double-edged rules - I just kinda imagined myself being away for a month or so due to the Uni job (which has happened actually a few times during the last year - that's just life, I can pretty much code anything Co8-related during the summertime and sometimes during the year but not much due to the Uni stuff)... So, what I meant was that it was just entirely possible for an active modder, like you, like me, like Ted, to be away for like a month or so - and we shouldn't decide just by that fact that the person has left forever to never ever return. Sorry I brought that up in the first place, I just couldn't resist noticing the possible outcomes of such situations... Hope it makes sense, please take no offense.

    I agree with Agetian, at least with the general idea.

    I propose that a modder seeking to combine his mod into Co8 be required to provide a valid email address. To keep things simple, I wouldn't require more, but modders should also be encouraged to do what Agetian said.

    I'll just put in my $0.02 by pointing out the root of many of our disagreements here is people wanting to change other people's work.
    Exactly. There is a cheesemaker, a brewer, a miller, a weaver (the elder one, not his disfunctional family), a cabinet-maker, a jeweller with an obviously shady background, and heaven knows how many characters whose sole job currently is to contribute to annoying romantic quests. Any of these folks could be modded to create interesting side-quests without stepping on anyone's toes.

    Or folks could make other modules. I never got to U3 but U1 and U2, for instance, could definitely be made with the engine and models we have.

    When a significant amount of work is about to be changed or discarded, perhaps we could package the earlier version as some sort of Toffee module. Don't we already have a half dozen, or so, already?

    I've enjoyed taking a break from the regular game by playing the Vicks & Wedge and (Pariah's name) modules, among others. They certainly show how far we've come.

    Besides, it could be the opportunity to do the "Flaming Fire Kitties from Hell" mod I've been thinking about.

    Or was that "Flaming Hott :censored: Vixxens from Hell." I can never keep the titles straight...
