fyi - I will soon be testing installations of ToEE and ToEEFE with Windows Vista, i.e., within about the next month, I am (now) purchasing and (will be) receiving a new laptop with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system pre-installed on it.

Here are the specs of what I will have if anyone is interested.

    Acer Aspire 5100-5480 Laptop
    AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 (AMD version of an Intel 64 X2)
    Processor Speed 1.6GHz
    Front-Side Bus 1600 MHz
    1GB (512MB x 2) DDR2 PC2-5300
ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 Series (laptop version of a desktop ATI X300)
Video Memory Up to 256MB Shared

Note: Due to the known issue of nVidia GeForce Go series (laptop video) and nVidia GeForce 6800 to 8000 series desktop drivers issues, I am opting to go with an ATI Radeon Xpress version of laptop video for my laptop purchase.

I bought the laptop this past weekend. Now, I get to wait like 2 or 3 weeks for its delivery. *sigh* Testing will begin after that time.

Whuh? I have a GeForce Go 6800 on a Dell Insp 9300 and just have the basic problems of slow nodes, unuseable doors, & such.

I did some searching but didn't find specifics.

    Guss I'm just blessed.

@ krunch: I hope you'll be diligent enough to post the results of your testing in the proper sticky thread related to testing ToEE on Windows Vista as well. ;)

Good news! Well, it worked - yes, ToEE runs on my new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium.

There are a lot of details I need to list here and in Agetian's thread, too. I will post the details tomorrow after work at home due to the amount of detail required.

I made several changes and installed ToEE last. Some changes were for personal preference. Other changes were to un-do what Microsoft and Acer did to slow down Windows Vista.

    - I uninstalled trialware.
    - I uninstalled all of the manufacturer [installled by default] 'Acer Empowering Technology' laptop software.
    - I disabled Windows Vista auto update.
    - I configured Internet Eplorer options.
    - I disabled Vista using checkbox selections of folders for actions.
    - I disabled the Vista User Account Control (Vista UAC).
    - I closed the Vista Gadgets and Sidebar and, then, I disabled the Sidebar.
    - I changed the configuration and look of the desktop and icons.
    - I changed the Windows Vista laptop power options - to never sleep, etc.
    - I disabled hybernate.
    - I turned off and disabled System Restore.
    - I set auto login for a workgroup.
    - I installed antivirus, firewall, and archive compression software.
    - I defragmented the hard drive.
    - I went through the official Zeb steps to install ToEE and ToEEFE.
    - I installed Bink RAD Video.

NOTE: I had to install ATARI PATCH1 followed by installing ATARI PATCH2 to prevent a Vista error message (about not finding an old file and copying).

    important things to note..
    - I did not download and did not install any driver updates.
    - I did not set any compatibility mode for launching or running the game.
    - Windows Vista comes with dotNET 3; I did not install any dotNET versions.
    - Bink RAD Video must be installed for Vista to handle BIK video files.
    - I believe disabling Vista UAC was important; I never want installs to be interrupted, specifically for file overwriting and permission to do things.
    - I used the 'Run as administrator..' option when doing the Zeb steps to install components of ToEE to ensure complete installation compliance.
    - I did not change any game options for particles, mouse acceleration, etc; I only made personal preference changes in the game options - when to end a turn, sound levels, etc.
    - Even though the video screen is wide and is displayed at 1280x800x32 at 60 Hz, the ToEE game options lists the video at 800x600x32 at 60 Hz and the ToEE game completely accepts the ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 adapter.
    - I did not change any of the ATI Control Panel settings.

The ToEE game ran properly.

Like I mentioned previously, newer models and drivers of most nVidia video adapters seem problematic for ToEE where there are very far less issues with ATI video adapters.

You will give everyone a report as soon as you reach the Nodes, right? Or even the Fire Temple?
Your hardware tips are greatly appreciated.

Actually, to save time and get back to modding more quickly this weekend, I will make an uber-high level party and teleport to the fire temple and, then, the fire node to see how it all goes for ToEE w/ ToFFEE on my laptop with Windows Vista for an operating system.

Here's a test ToEE/Vista/Radeon update. The Fire Temple runs on a laptop with Vista Home Premium just like it does for a desktop with XP SP2. The same is true for the Elemental Node of Fire.

    [EDIT]
I made a new thread with a poll for peops to try out two changes in the game options and see if the nodes slowdowns issue is resolved, lessened, or nothing changed for the two game options changes.
