What can we do to support this? Where should I send a letter/email?

might as well face it, ATARI is interested in making moola and I am looking at several products they have on the market that they wouldn't want competition for:
    D&D online
    Dragonshard
    NWN1 and 2
    Adventure packs
And I bet you BG series still sells a bit and likely more than ToEE

What I find amazing is the response ToEE and Co8 get from posters at the NWN2 forums. The love for ToEE is actually growing it seems.

Regardless of my previous posts, what might be the last ditch effort would be some type of commercial proposal to ATARI. Its how Bioware ended up in the biz if I remember correctly. :tired:

Maybe this is a possible route:

    One thing to consider:

It might be good if Atari DID go bankrupt. Under this deal, and if Atari is no more, most of its NDA's and legal ties die with it. That would make anyone in Troika able to give you the tools you want.

So in a round about way, don't support Atari products.

If, after all they don't play fair or are willing to help, then why should we?

I am still playing this game after 5 years all thanks to the mods, and obviously Atari cares about only new sales, rather than improving what it has. It is obviously corporate minded so I would not expect any favours/help. I have no interest in NWN (tried it, gave up after 2 days) but TOEE is the best version of D+D out there.

Frankly, CO8 should just march onward and forget Atari. How could they sue it anyway? It is not an entity per se, with no personages of note.

Just me. If Atari going tits up is what it takes to get our way, so be it.

IF it is obvious they won't help then lets do everything to not help them.

Count me in for any official petition. I've noted several posts where folks have bought the game for the first time YEARS after it was released. I am certain that's because of the time and effort you all have put into the patches and mods to make the game playable. May ToEE become the Blade Runner (or for that matter, the Firefly)of this genre!

As noted in the past, i would also sign it, however let me say this...

With all the work that CO8 has put into their tools and the advancements in scriptings and AI strategy; I am starting to feel we might be taking a step backwards.. There are obvious flaws in their toolset and the incredible advancements that have recently been made for the KOTB mod we have taken the game beyond the realm of their imaginations. These advancements use the existing game engine, however it unlocks possibilities with our advanced scripts that would not be able to be done with their tools.

I actually am looking forward to what CO8 is developing vs wishing for something that is starting to become an obsolete toolset.:drunk:

Atari and the others are never going to co-operate but it doesn't matter because with all the new mod stuff and tutorials co8 can do most anything anyway. I don't think we're missing much.

Well, we're missing the ability to bring in your models, Ax Thrower ;)

Otherwise, from what I understand the Atari tools are a little easier to do large things with (quickly light and sector a map, for instance, with a GUI) but doesn't have the raw power of ToEEWB to accomplish as much. I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that even if we had the official tools, we'd still use ToEEWB and some of the others.

More to the point, people should download ToEEWB and learn to use it, not just wait for something that almost certainly ain't gonna happen.

never say your not advanced enough... I know nothing about programming other than what I learned back in the 80's about basic DOS programming... as to graphic programs ANYONE can learn them... ST has authored a GREAT modding Tutorial and Krunch has put it into PDF... it is a step by step walk through and is easy to do... so pick it up and give it a try... you will find it is not that hard..,.

You make a good point there but unfortunately I think ATARI IS very corporate minded which is why it will be very difficult to topple. They do things only for the bottom line and that may be one reason why they have survived.

People like Interplay, Black Isle, Troika, etc. always tried to go that extra mile for the fan...even going so far as offering free expansions like heart of winter to satisfy naysayers. That may be a reason for their demise.

Some of the info above may be slightly inaccurate, Im in a rush at the moment.

And an aside not really related, but like I said, in a bit of a rush. Could there not be a sticky for the progress on Ted's KotB mod. I always come back here getting the feeling that it has died until I see his sig or something else.

Woops, well it took me three years to find it but I see you have a dedicated forum devoted to KotB. Good stuff. Jan 28 release date. Be interesting to see how much notice this will give ToEE. I plan to ruthlessly push this candy on the NWN2 boards. I hope there is some very clear instructions on getting TOEE up and running on Vista and XP platforms so the people who come over for a taste aren't discouraged. I'll have to do a little searching around to figure out where you folks are today with the installation of the game and patches since it has been a long time since completing the OC of ToEE.

    Cheers, and good release!
